I married an Irish girl & she has stuck it out with me for the last 30 years. This weekend I picked-up these nice Irish coins. The first one is a Half Crown (2 Shillings + 6 pence) dated 1942. This coin has the Irish harp device on the obverse and the horse on the reverse.
This next Irish coin is a 1-Shilling dated 1942. This coin also has the Irish harp device on the obverse. The reverse device is a bull.
My final Irish coin today was actually purchased a couple weeks before from the same dealer. It is the 1 Pence dated 1950. This coin has the Irish harp obverse and hen with chicks on the reverse.
I love the Barn Yard series. I think they are some of the best of the modern issues from any country.
Sounds kind of dangerous & kind of funny too This coin reminds me of a story from when my wife was 16 years old in Clare County. She was walking home & climbed over a rock wall to take a short-cut through a field. While crossing the field she discovered a bull galloping towards her from a far corner. Supposedly, she pulled up her dress & ran for her life while her dad and uncle sat on the sidelines & had a good laugh.
Beautiful coins Collect89. I especially like the Half Crown and the Shilling. I have quite a few Irish coins but they're all counterstamped political pieces which is a different type of Irish collection than yours. I'm going to have to start picking up some unstamped ones because I really do like the designs. Thanks for showing yours. Bruce
I'm working on collecting the Irish coins now among my many interests. I like the design and the fact that they haven't been produced for that long, so I'm biting off a much smaller task than some other countries. One can actually finish an Irish collection.
I too like the Irish coinage, especially the halfcrown. If the 30s isn't too early, I may get round to taking pics of my 30's halfcrowns (EF or Unc) ...
If you can get photos, please post your half crowns. It would also be nice if some folks could post examples the other Irish coins from this series: Farthing with woodcock Half Pence with Sow & piglets Three Pence with Rabbit Florin (2 Shillings) with Fish
I agree the bull and horse coins are very attractive. I have the others I got from misc group lots, but I really like those first two, especially in high grade.
Here are the farthing, half penny and the three pence. The farthings are mostly pretty rare actually. I only have two.
