I was visiting a friend's coin shop and he showed me this GB Sovereign that he has. It is AU. Does anyone know what it is worth, as the literature apparently is lacking on this overdate? Thanks.

Unless you can get a 3rd party grading service to slab it as an overdate, the coin essentially doesn't exist even if you have one in your had staring you in the face. Or, at least that's been my own experience with a 1900 Denmark 20 Kronor that was a clear overdate with the second "0" clearly overstruck on a "9". NGC wouldn't attribute it, and so the coin is considered an 1900 and that's the end of it.

So there is no book on this coin? PCGS prices did not list world coins like this last I checked. I will check NGC.

moneyer12 i just love UK coins.......

i have never heard of a sovereign over date, they are almost exclusively struck as proof standard and such errors would be around 1000,000 to 1

The only alternative NGC lists is the R/inverted R issue to the regular 1862 piece, with a population of 1.
