Got this 2000 P Sacagawea in car wash change and was wondering if the Mint Mark is DD or MD? I have looked at others that were all MD on the internet but this one doesn't have the same look to it. Just got my Celestron Microscope and thought I would ask! Thanks
It looks like the mint mark is the only part of the coin that looks to be doubled slightly, so it is probaly a doubled mint mark. This is very light doubling compared to many other doubled mint mark coins. -Jimmbob82 P.S. I wish I had a microscope like that to take pictures of my coins:smile
Jimmbob, Of course I like your answer the best -LOL! The usb microscope can be bought for $32.00 on Amazon. This brand seems to the pick among the folks on here!
The mint mark looks like genuine doubling to me, the date looks mechanical. Have you checked to see if there are similar known varieties out there?
Yes, The Mint Mark is what I was asking about and No, I haven't found this known error as of yet. It doesn't look like MD as there is clear doubling on the P. I have shown this to a couple coin dealers and one said DD and the other said not sure, could go either DD or Worn Die? Both said they couldn't find any known error BUT they both said that every coin error had a first. I have had different opinions here and I appreciate those as this forum has more knowledge than I could ever find any where else. Thanks and any more thoughts are greatly appreciated.
The coin dealers are right, every error group has to begin with one coin. You could have the beginning of a error group or you could just have a one of a kind error. Either way you look at it you still have an error! -Jimmbob82
