*gasp* that EDITED Abon is selling coins on Overstock.com, and he has 99% positive feedback! http://auctions.overstock.com/item/24578054#PhotoGallery The the grade of the coin I saw shocked me the most MS67!!! This has got to be a phony SGS slab
hmmm, the quoted text below seems to be similar (read word-for-word identical to) the Bowers Redbook of Morgan Dollars book, but there doesn't seem to be any credit given to the author. Anyone know how to contact whitman publishing or Mr. Bowers to let them know that their copyrighted material is being used to sell SGS graded coins?
http://auctions.overstock.com/item/24307002?ogalRefer=21870728 WARNING.. I took a drink of Soda right as this was coming up on my screen. DONT take a drink like I did. Burns like heck when it comes out your nose..
This is what got me laughing, lol. I guess the SGS gold seal can technically be considered "famous" in the sense it is very well known in the coin collecting community, though not for the reasons they would like I am sure.
Oh please do...I would love to see Mr Bowers and Co. shut these people down...If that happens, I am just going to have to giggle myself to sleep...
Like Edited, they're everywhere and smell just as bad. http://www.cointalk.org/showpost.php?p=130067&postcount=46
Thank you! I sent him a message listing the 15 overstock and 36 ebay auctions that had lifted huge portions of text from his work and a couple of days ago I got the following response: This is encouraging! While this won't stop SGS by itself I'm hoping that it is one more strike against aboncom and that the list is adding up. Remember that it took quite a while to stop pjd1966, but eventually the list of problems got long enough that eBay had to act. It is only a matter of time until critical mass is rreached.
I would suspect that there are many people in the major TPG's who would like to make SGS and their ilk go away, but can't act on any legal basis against a business competitor. Grading is just too subjective for such action. It'll have to be directly-injured parties who do the deed. I'm praying for someone with very deep pockets and very high morals to get involved.
Except, this situation is exactly that. QDB is the injured party here since it is his copyrighted work that was lifted by a competitor (of his) to sell their own (aboncom's) coins.
Well, this particular case is different and very clear-cut. QDB is required by law to vigorously defend his copyright (although I don't know how applicable the law is to printed descriptions). Frankly, I'm astounded at the arrogance displayed by the seller by what he's done. What I was referring to was the grading practices of SGS and their ilk, which is harming the upper-tier TPG's but not necessarily giving them legal grounds to act. Anything which will drive another nail into their coffin is good by me, but I would much prefer actions against them which form a legal precedent so we can go after the rest of the homeslabbers.
By the way, guys: Your good friend curlymmiv has been NIXED for stupidity -- on Ebay's message board. BWA HAAAAA AGHAAAA. Seems he violated the message board a few too many times. I was hoping to catch is current auction to get his mailing address for my process server.
Is this what one hears from a seller??? Is that what anyone wants to hear from a seller? Is that the right altitude from a seller? Thank the forum admins for letting this and the other post live - it really shows the other side of the seller, which I swear, no one should buy from, regardless of the bargain. Customers are the king - if you can't satisify them, don't expect to stay around much longer. I for one definately have learned to spread the nature of this issue by word of mouth. :secret:
Just checked eBay and the currently have 58 auctions up that are still /again pirating Whitman/QDB's copyrighted work. That just seams like an unintelligent thing to do.
Definitely worth filing a report on www.ripoffreport.com .These scumburger traders need to be taken out of circulation & closed down. I've been informed that the A.N.A. are aware of what Aboncom,Stevesgiftshoppe & SGS are doing, but they can't take action yet,as no laws have been broken yet. Aidan.
