About 10 years ago I inherited my grandfathers coin collection. I was recently looking through it and and noticed a lot of silver Washington quarters. In my unprofessional opinion the majority of these are in "good" condition with a few of them possibly in "fine" condition, none of these coins are uncirculated. This is a breakdown of the collection, my question is after:

    1932 coin missing from collection
    1933 coin missing from collection
    1934 no mint mark
    1935 no mint mark
    1936 no mint mark
    1937 no mint mark
    1938 coin missing from collection
    1939 no mint mark
    1940 no mint mark
    1941 d
    1942 s
    1943 s
    1944 d
    1945 d
    1946 no mint mark
    1947 d
    1948 d
    1949 no mint mark
    1950 d
    1951 d
    1952 d
    1953 d
    1954 d
    1955 d
    1956 d
    1957 d
    1958 d
    1959 d
    1960 d
    1961 d
    1962 d
    1963 coin missing from collection
    1964 coin missing from collection

I am considering selling these coins... Now for my question, I have done research online and came to the conclusion that these coins are worth only their value in silver (correct me if I'm wrong). If I where to complete the set by buying the missing coins from online auction, would the collection be more valuable since it's every year of silver Washington quarters? Would A collector be interested in a complete set or would the coins still be worth only their value in silver?

Your input and advice is much appreciated, thank you.

Hi escabar. My opinion is that if you purchased the missing ones (the '32s are expensive key dates) it probably wouldn't add any value to the collection just because it is complete. Keeping in mind, we really need to know the condition of the ones you currently have. Generally you would make more money selling every one individually. You just have to decide if it is worth your time and effort to do that.

A lot of the type of people that would be looking at the entire collection, would be looking at the silver value. However, if someone needed a couple to complete their personal collection, they will most likely pay a buck or two over melt to do that.

You say the 1932 is missing, does that mean you have the 1932-S & 1932-D mintmarks. Those are the valuable keys to the collection.

No, By that I mean I do not have any 1932 coins. Basically I am trying to find out if having 1 quarter from each year will add value as a complete set or should I just sell the collection as is for the melt value.

I agree with gbroke, complete sets generally sell for less than the individual pieces.
If you can, post some pics of the early 40s mintmarked ones. We could give you an opinion as to whether your grading is in the ballpark. These would be the ones that could have some value above melt.

The only problem with Washington quarters is besides the key dates they don't really have much of a premium do to the fact that there are so many available in excellent condition for most years.

Also, there is no 1933 quarter.
