I recently aquired 5 Morgan Dollars and was wondering what kind of grading you would give these.
I am going to send these out to be graded next week and want to know what they might come back as.

    The dates are: 1883, 1886, 1899 o, 1900 o (x2)

All look to be in uncirculated condition and are in 2x2 flips.

The 1899 in particulair is a very nice looking coin. It has nice mirror finish & reflectivity as well as a nice strike for being an o coin. I don't know if you can get that from the pictures.

The other coins are just as nice, but not as briliant as the 1899.

i'm curious as to what you think. Here is the link to the coins.

    Thanks for your help,

Howdy Spiderblues - Welcome to the Forum !!

Grading coins from pics is difficult, especially scans because they wash out the luster. But I will give my opinion based on the pics.

    1883 - AU55

    1896 - AU55

    1900-O - AU50

    1900-O #2 - AU55

    1899-O AU55

Now, these are srtictly my opinions. But if I were you I would take the coins to a dealer you trust and ask his opinion of the coins before you send them off to be graded. That's because if I am correct, the grading fees for these will be more than the coins are worth.

    Welcome to CoinTalk

I wouldn't bother sending them in to get graded. For one they're not extremely desirable dates and two they dont seem to be all that high of grades-again pictures are difficult to distinguish.

    How about...

    1883 -- AU-53
    1886 -- AU-55
    1900-O -- XF-45/AU-50
    1900-O -- AU-58 or MS-63
    1899 -- AU-58

And welcome to the list :D

Thanks all for welcoming me to the forum!
I will try to get better pictures, they really are better in person.
I going to take them to a local coin shop and see what they think. I'll keep you posted.

So I took the coins to a dealer today and he confirmed what you guys said.
I asked to see what at graded coin looked like so I could look at it against mine and see what the differances are. He showed me a 1903 MS63 or 65 Morgan. Nice coin. I could see it didn't have as many bag marks and was a cleaner coin all around.
Oh well. I'll keep looking for some new Morgans to add to my collection.

    Thanks again,

    SB

Well Spiderblues, look at it this way. You saved enough money on the grading fees you didn't have to pay for to go ut and buy an MS Morgan ;)

But keep in mind, it wasn't bag marks on your coins that kept them from being MS - it was wear. You need to be able to identify light wear on coins that keeps them just under the MS threshold and those coins of yours are good examples of that.
