Ask the bank if they have any boxes of whatever you want to search.

If you really want non searched rolls, buy them from the mint directly.

So far in my area, Wells Fargo bank is the only bank that has unsearched rolls of older coins. (Halves and quarters)

Does the mint ship out older coins or just new issues?

Can I get a box of dimes from the bank or mint and find barbers or mercs?

it is rare to find mercs or barbs from boxes from the bank but it has happened. I found a merc last year but only one so far. And I dont think the mint sells boxes.

I guess I shouldn't go buying boxes from banks then

You're not going to be able to get a roll of dimes for face value and expect it to be full of mercs or barbers, If you really want them, its best to just buy them.

Yeah if Merc's are Barb's are what you want to collect then I would also suggest going to your local coin shop and buying them there. Ebay is another option but buyer beware.

Don't let this stop you from searching though. While its highly unlikely you'll find anything of value, it does happen. I found a full roll of silver rosies last year but thats has a <.0001% chance of happening again. I like the thrill of the hunt myself. Try it out and see if you enjoy it. :)

I agree. Its the thrill of the hunt. Even if you dont want to go through a whole box, every time youre in the bank pick up a few rolls. wheats are fairly easy to come around. You can also search for error coins that arent silver where the average person might have noticed it when rolling their coins.

Get to know your coins shop owners. A coin shop is in many cases the best option. Yeah you won't pick them up a face like from a bank. However as long as your local brick and mortar store or even online coin shop are 1) honest not just about price but on how searched rolls or bags are. Just ask I know many guys especially the older ones who make their money on bullion, coin sets, and UNC's who plain don't care. They throw silver in one bucket, bin or box and wheaties in the other. They don't check and most people even dealers are going after 55 Dbl. Die's, 09VSB-S, CC silver coins stuff like that. 2) have a deep discount bin my best pick was overstock UNC mercury dimes picked up a 44-D happened to be a D/D. Plus it's a shop I frequent so other than bullion they knock some dollars off everything I buy even graded morgans. Another possibility are estate sales. NOT GARAGE sales. Call the agent handling it to see if there are any coins, bags, or rolls and ask for a wholesale price if you are willing to either buy in bulk or spend hundreds of dollars and many will to make sure they move the stuff especially "junk".

Do they charge you a fee to order boxes of Halves? They started charging me $7. :dead-horse:

Oh, why not ask the people around, although the possibility is not high?
