I have a 1930 Mexican 5 Centavos Coin in beautiful condition with bright luster, definitely BU except there is a dent mark on the edge. As I look in the Krause book it has a SIGNIFICANT difference in book value for "Large Oval O in Date vs. Small Square O in Date. Can you help me identify which kind of coin this is please? Thanks group
I amterrible at Mexican coinage, so I can't tell the date. However, it looks like the coin is cleaned
I believe that your coin has the regular oval 0 in the date. There is wear on all the high points of the coin so I would grade it EF. I agree with the others about it being harshly cleaned. The light-bright color of the coin may make it look attractive but it has wear & evidence of cleaning IMO. If it was sold to you at UNC money, then you may consider asking to return it for credit or refund. The 1930 in EF catalogs for $27.50 in my book & far less in VF. An UNC piece catalogs for $210.
Unfourtunatley the dent might drop it a grade and or in price. Your coin might be worth only about $10
Thanks for the input everyone I didn't really pay anything for it, but I do appreciate the help on the grading! Can someone help me with finding the high points on this coin so I know what to look for in the future?
