I might hold out this winter and try to get enough money together to purchase this set I just saw on the US Mint website. It's a 4 coin set that includes all the gold AE pieces, 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 once with a cool case.

2011 American Eagle Gold Proof Four-Coin Set (AK5) Price: $3,400.50

Anybody have any opinions on this set? It looks very nice. I haven't done any price checks yet. Maybe it will be a birthday present for myself in April. Hopefully I can squirrel away that kind of cash in the next 3 months.

5-10 coins a year sounds about right if you're going for gold coins. The price adds up really quickly especially on the 1 ounce coins.

If you want these, get them from the Mint while they're still available from them. Any secondary source for these it will cost you more.

thanks BUncirulated for the advice. I just purchased another coin from the mint.. lol... we'll I've spent around $600-700 on starter coins in the past couple of days, so I think I'm done. Concerning this current purchase, I watched a video on youtube and noticed the size of the coin, 5 ounces; had to have it.

Congrats on joining the hobby, and I mean THE hobby. Not a stamp made of paper, or a tiny car made of plastic, or a card with a hologram, but an Honest to Goodness piece of history. This is the best time ever to begin, as the State Park quarters are perhaps the most beautiful regular issue coins ever. For the money, the best value is in the three coin ATB set. One proof, and a Philly and Denver quarter of EACH state park issue. For 15 dollars, you get the highest quality of all the mint issues, with the uncirculated quarters being in the 66-68 range, in my experience. And the Mint itself states that these are the early die states, and better than other issues. Buy each issue this way and you cannot go wrong. Finally, these are short runs, less than 20,000 mostly. Until folks get wise.
