Hey guys take another look at my Morgan on the reverse bottom arrowhead there is dip along the top of the point .
So my question is is there a VAM for this just wondering because I,m finally going to send it off to PCGS next week after almost a year of waiting.
I really want to get all the facts about this coin so it can get all it deserves on the slab . I know there is an extra charge for VAM research from PCGS i,m trying to save $ if you know what mean
both obverse and reverse are in main gallery

This coin has been in my family since the day it was minted . It was givin to my Great grandmother as a brithday gift in 1886 by her Uncle who worked in the mint in PA during that time . If I understand my family history correct he worked there for almost 30 years starting around 1874-75 untill he died in 1906 .
As to what I paid 30 years ago $1.00 my uncle wanted me to have it insteed of his kids so he sold it to me for a Dollar because he knew that I would hang on to it and keep it in the family. A matter of fact he the one that got me into this hobbie ih the frist place:bow:

Love it when you can actually attatch a personal history to the coin. Makes the coin infinitely more interesting than a coin that is just one of a million identical coins minted the same year, no matter how nice it looks! Though of course yours looks nice too, lol.

The fact that you can account for its histroy also pretty much guarantees it's authentic. As to whether it's altered that;s harder to say, but I have no idea how to add that kind of finish to a coin that doesn't already have it, without leaving some very obvious evidence of doing so, which your coin lacks. Looks like the real deal to me, from what I can tell from the photos. Good chance that if you got it graded it would get a PL designation.

If anybody could get his hands on a proof coin, a mint employee could.

I'm nont qualified to say if it's a proof or not, but those feathers on the eagle's breast sure have great detail.

The thing that has always concerned me was has it been cleaned improperly
That's going to get it bodybaged

The interior fields of the letters on the reverse seem to have a different surface from the exterior fields.

Isn't that sometimes an indication that a coin's been dipped?

That Morgan Dollar looks real to me and if it isnt a proof its a very high grade. I'd send it in the NGC for certification.

I stand by my original estimate - I have circled the areas of concern.

OT, am I reading this correct that this thread started a year ago? and was recently revived?

I will take a shot at an MS-64 PL.

yep, the OP revived his thread 11 months after he started it because he has finally gotten to the point of sending it in to be graded.

VAM HUNTERS PLEASE HELP:bow:
well yes I'm just getting around to sending it off , but the reason I revived it was because I was wondering if there was a VAM with the notch along the top of bottom arrow on reverse thats all. I don't have a book on VAMs or I would look it up myself. I have never seen this on a Morgan before . I know there are a lot of VAM people on here so I thought I would ask for some help with this before it's on it's way to PCGS that all:confused:
