Just curious... do you tend to buy Red Books every year, or skip years. We have a 2005 edition. I thought that for the purpose of understanding mintages and relative prices, it would be OK; and then we could more carefully research specific coins in which we were interested for more recent prices.
Last year was my 1st year, I bought a Red Book, Before that I only had a few coins and I just looked online.. With my daughter and myself getting more and more into it, I figured what the heck.. Pick one up. I didn't know how much I'd use it... All, I can say now is, I'm glad I bought the spiral bound.. I'll prolly get 2007 and see how much change there is, if not alot I might go the every other year route from then on..
No problem-I was surprised to see it myself i'm surprised-I got no hassle and didn't even have to wait long. They sent me THREE instead of TWO-I was really surprised. Okay-sorry about changing the subject-I stop now :high5: Bill
I got my 2 in the mail today . They are nice- probably would grade out as MS68 . Freebies are always fun ! 2006 NCG 1st Strike Gem BU
I've been buying that dumb book for a long time now. I've still got every issue from the 8th Edition to present. The 2006 is the worst for errors but the 2007 is still pretty bad for errors. I keep them in as good condition as possible. It is becoming a collectable as much as coins. Note in the 2007 edition on page 391 to 393 they give prices for the old issues. However, at most coin shows I go to there is no market for them. Only on ebay could they be sold but then anything could be sold on ebay. I too called the 800 number listed on page 4 of the Red Book for the free Silver Eagles. I think the number is like a telemarkets number. They too wouldn't let me off the phone trying to get me to buy Gold $25 dollar coins. They wanted me to buy 20 of them and I started to laugh so hard I think he cought on this was going nowhere. They will accept checks so I am sending one now for the $10. I don't like to give out a credit card number to some nut on the phone I don't know. I hope I get 3 of them also. As to the Red Book errors, the no number on some pages is irritating to me. Note the add for the free coins is on page 4 but you can't tell that unless you go to page 6 and count backwards. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
According to Whitman, they put the 2007 edition out earlier because it was the 60th Anniversary issue They wanted to sell more of them I suppose. Bill
Actually you would have thought that for the 60th anniversary edition they would have made it with a fance cover or something. Only place it is noted is at the bottom of the front cover. There is a Whitman Publishing Representative that monitors coin forums like this one and the PCGS web site. I would assume that if sufficient quantities of individuals made complaiints about this edition something might sink in with them. As Noted somewhere here before the Walmart books web site is the cheapest place to buy the Red Book.
I picked it up because I did not get an 06. Great color pics but I wish that they had up to date mintages on all coins (up to 2005 at least).
I just called to order the 2 free ASE and was treated to the hard sell of a 2001 gold half eagle. The guy was calling from Texas and tried to make small talk, asking where i live, work, the weather here etc lol. They then told me they could only send me one ASE,so it's costing me $10 for one silver eagle,no big deal but still cheaper than buying at full price. I have a feeling i'm going to get phone calls and mail solicitations from these folks for the next 10yr's, i hope this wasn't a mistake.:desk:
