Any one else here hate Pennies? I know there are many many collectors, but personally, I can't stand pennies, i think they are a Usless coin. I like Indians and before but the the Lincoln cent has to be my least liked U.S. coin
Not to offend some one else's treasure but I had issues with the sac dollars from the beginning for they were advertised as "golden coins" in NYC's trains and buses which I thought took advantage of the mentally disadvantaged. I also do not like the Susan B. Anthony dollar. What a mug. Hated carrying that coin in my pockets for I often spent it as a quarter as well when in a hurry. Why not have a Jessica Abba dollar. I would love to have Jessica in my pants. I also am not fond of a canadian coin which has a bunch of kids holding hands. It just does not have the look of money for me. Mind you I love the nation of Canada and have spent a lot of time up there in my youth, I just don't like that coin. I find cents to be useless but I like the coin itself.
A jessica alba dollar!' Yea I vote for that rather than having W in my pants, he is already in my pockets
Same here thats my least Favorite coin... I would not mind having a complete Unc and Proof set, thats in some type of holder or something to keep them nice... But I would not pay alot for them...
My least favorite: A PCGS Jessica Lynch signed MS69 American Silver Eagle Here is a person in a non-combat role that makes a wrong turn and is captured. She later was rescued by the real heros. I thank her for her service, but for her to be treated like a conquering war-hero over the men that saved her...I just don't buy it. As for circulated coins, the wicked-witch-of-the-east on dollars (SBA) is a joke and a disgrace to the American dollar.
Well my least favorite regualr issue coin I would have to say is the SBA dollar. Though the reverse is nice... however the Ike dollar has just as good a reverse, lol. I'm also not a big fan of the Barber dimes, quarters, or half dollars... likely I'm in the minority among collectors, lol, but I just am not impressed with the obverses on these. I also think the 1991 Korean War silver dollar is the most rediculous looking commemorative I've seen... it just seems way too cluttered. I think the least favorite coin of the general public (not necessarily by me or collectors) would clearly have to be the 20 cent piece, not only the shortest live coin series but the shortest lived denomination in US history... people may have complained the SBA dollar looked too much like a quarter, but the 20 cent piece looked even more like quarters of the time (the obverse was identical essentially), and the denomination was seen as basically useless.
I dont like the Ike Dollars because they're just that-an Eisenhower Dollar. Boring and not a good looking figure plus the fact that they made a coin of him right after he died. I know next you'll say "What about Kennedy"? I think that Kennedy's figure is a lot more appealing than that of Eisenhowers.
I don't like the Lincoln cent because it led to the Washington quarter, Jefferson nickel,Roosevelt dime, Franklin and Kennedy halves, Ike dollars... by setting the precedent for a person on the coin. The original 1909 design looks good, the Indian cent was nothing extraordinary. We later lost the Buffalo nickel, Standing Liberty quarter, and WL half designs ( really nice designs) because of the cent.
The SAC has got to be one of the ugliest coins, especially the observe, and the metal content is horrible. I'm all for honering the native americans on a coin but the SAC just dosen't cut it. It has the look and feel of a cheap token and i hope it's day's are numbered.
I agree that the Lincoln cent is one of the worst designs and current coins. Hopefully they go to something else after 2009. The IHC was a much better design. It was a good point that was made above that the Lincoln cent ended many other designs that were better.
Lincoln Memorial Cent, especially post 1982 Ike Dollar - Too big to be practical and ugly to boot SBA dollar - looks too much like a quarter, ugly portrait SAC - looks like a gaming token, ugly when circulated Washington Quarter / State Quarters - The spaghetti hair varieties especially. Whatever happened to picking a design and keeping it for at least 25 years? Too many people collect them and think they will be worth something in their lifetime. Kennedy Half Dollar - A pointless denomination, newer vending machines don't accept them, haven't been issued for circulation in several years. Ben Franklin Half Dollar - Ugly portrait, and replaced walking liberty Silver commems / amer eages. - aren't real coins, nobody spends them. Proof and mint sets - great way for the mint to make a profit. old proof sets used to be made for the likes of the King of Siam, now they are just clever marketing. Common years can be had for no more than what was originally paid.
all $1 coins after the peace series, and come to think of it I'm not that fond of the peace series either, but the others really take the cake
I have a question and a statement. Why does this ASE look UNC on the obv. and Proof on the rev? Is it just the light? I think Jessica Lynch was taken on a ride after her rescue by the military and the US government. This was amplified by the news media that lapped it up like kittens. If you read or saw any interviews with her,she tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but...she says she never fired her weapon or tried to be a hero and gives 100% credit to her rescuers. At the moment they broke into her hospital room..all she said was."I'm a U.S. soldier too" ...and that she WAS. OK...she made a few buck signing autographs, but basically stayed out of the limelight.I would do the same.
