    Simple question.

Why not do some simple research online first and report back? The answer is out there and easy enough to find. Google.

Probably because the packaging takes up too much space.

If that were so then the Mint wouldn't be selling many coins now would they.

Recent OGP for 2011's A25 and 2009's UHR were enormous!

  6. Maybe they were not prestigious enough? :goofer: My best guess is that they were not a money maker. :smile TC

The Prestige sets were created as a marketing gimmick to be more "special" by including a commemorative coin (a silver coin) from the year of issue. After a while, mintages increased and demand fell off so sales slumped making the sets unprofitable to continue minting. The next offering from the Mint in '92 was the Silver Proof Mint sets, which pretty much was the last nail in the coffin of the Prestige sets.

I'm very well aware of that one Thad, have used it here on CT plenty o' times... even considered using it again in this and other threads for this specific OP... But it's the OP who really needs directing to the LMGTFY.:thumb:

It looks like the OP has been jumped on pretty hard, but I would say that the question is worth considering.

Another way to phrase it would be - "Do you think that there's any chance the mint will reinstate Prestige Sets" in the future?

    Simple answer, lack of demand.

And yet, without even phrasing it at all and just doing a little leg work, the OP could have still learned the answer without raising the question. I raise this point because of the number of questions posed in short order by the same OP which are "simple" even for a beginner to read up on. But it's moot now, becuase we've already answered it for them with encouragement to do more for themselves in future. Eat fish for a day or learn to fish.

Just a general observation, this particular OP has been jumped on in many threads. Not just this one, poor guy's got a bullseye on himself.

I have often wondered why this happens so often on this forum. It seems bullying is not just for kids anymore.

    That's just too cool!

Unfortunately, the first two links I got came right back to this thread! funny.gif

What I'd like to know is why they dropped the Presidential Dollar Signature Sets! I realize that these didn't sell very well but they made a great Library Bookshelf collectible!
Ive got all the coins for 2007 and 2008 but now don't know what to do with them!

Well my view is somewhere in the deep dark recesses of my mind I was unsure why they stopped as well. So, by the OP bringing up this topic here not only did he learn, but I was able to read the thread and find out the same thing. Maybe a few other people might have found this out as well. Its kind of like its some kind of forum where people can ask questions, and have others, (if they wish), answer their questions for them. :)

Kind of a cool invention, huh?

To be fair, the OP could have, instead of just saying "simple question", could have put what he knew about prestige sets for the benefit of others, and then asked why they stopped producing them after X date. He could have even postulated an answer and asked if that was correct, so yes the OP could have done a little more work on creating the original question.

  17. I miss the annual dollar coin sets with the burnished Silver Eagle, Presidential dollars, and Sacagawea dollar packaged so it is shaped like a star. TC

Good post - deserves more than just a likes. Maybe a likes and a +1. :) Have to do a smiley face on that.

What is even more interesting is the first answer from google that really answered the question was buy conder101 on another forum - same person who answered it in this thread.
