i recently purchased a couple uncirculated sets, i was wondering. how do you guys store yours? do you cut them out and place them in 2x2s or do you keep them in original packaging and if you keep them in original packaging how do you display them? thanks guys! cody
Removing them from the Mint packaging is advisable only if you are going to send the coins in to be certified. Otherwise just leave them be.
I keep mine in a box. No need to display I suppose. Have been tempted to pull my W mark dime outta the cello though.
I never take them out. I just put them in a fire proof box that is locked of a safety deposit box and they stay in there for however long I want them in there.
I think it depends on your collecting goals. If you collect a specific coin you would break that one coin out for your set. But if you just want to get one set of each year you should keep it intact like others have said.
Coins cut out of a US Mint Uncirculated Coin Set and put into 2x2's are no longer considered mint set coins but simply uncirculated coins. If you are wanting to keep these as a set then do not cut them out. The best way to store your mint set is in a cool dry and flat location. Out of direct light is best since light fades everything. Out in the open on a shelf won't work either since common household dust will eventually discolor and eat away at the outer envelope. You COULD put them in Zip-lock food storage bags which have no contaminents in them. If you are planing on purchasing more Uncirculated Sets, you might want to consider buying a storage box designed specifically for Uncirculated Sets. They are available at any major coin show or you can order them directly from Brent-Kreuger. They cost about $7.00 each. Some Coin Shops stock them or will even order them for you.
Cody, JP's Corner has the storage boxes available for about $6, and Jerry is pretty prompt on shipping. You might also want to consider purchasing the desiccant packs to put in each box. http://www.jpscorner.com/Coin_Storage_Boxes_Proof_Mint_Sets.htm Chris Here is the page for the desiccants......... http://www.jpscorner.com/Silica_Gel_Desiccant.htm I like the 40gm because they can be recharged by putting them in the oven, and they will last indefinitely.
I bought 4 of the 40gm products (not from this seller) and the big complaint I have with them is that the tin does not have a positive seal. What this means is that they will pop open and spill those little rechargable beads all over every thing. Other than that they appear to work pretty good.
Not this seller? That's what you get for buying Chinese knock-offs. LOL! I've had mine for about 8 years with no problems. Chris
