I was reading article and it looks in History channel show Cajun Pawn stars? one of first episodes the store owners offers 500k for a 5k and 10k bank notes. Anyone caught this episode and have further information to share on this. http://www.thetowntalk.com/article/...05/-Cajun-Pawn-Stars-showcase-Alexandria-shop
They are "brother and sister" bank notes. $5,000 and $10,000 notes respectively. They both had serial numbers of something like K00000042A making them brother and sister bills. Apparently almost nonexistent. The guy turned the offer down as too low.
My 2cents I like this Cajun Pawn star 100% more than the 1st Pawn star but Cummlee is funny. but that brother+sister note set is a Big money $500+1000 note and Rare.
I saw this episode the other night. Quite a collection he had! I am not well versed in the vocabulary of paper money collecting. What again are "brother/sister serial numbers?" Last year I got the 2011 Lucky Money year of the Monkey collection. I think the 4 single notes, a $20.00 and the 1,2, and 5.00 lucky 888's. I was surprised to see the 1,2, and 5 set sell on ebay for $660 if I recall correctly. I normally don't collect notes and that was my very first purchase from the BEP. I'll post some pics when I get more time.
What suprised me was he had two sets of the 5K and 10K notes but as I understood it only one set was a brother and sister pair (matching serial #'s different demonination). Was the half a million offer for both set's or just for the bro/sis pair? The offer was fair since the bro/sis pair was valued at 750,000 alone. However throwing the other pair in there would have been a steal for the pawn shop at 500,000 and that's why the deal didn't happen. The pawn shop wanted all 4 notes for the price of just the two. The customer only wanted/needed 20K to pay payroll. Personally I would have tried to sell the non matching pair of 5 and 10K notes to make payroll and kept the bro/sis pair never bringing it into the shop. FYI no paper money mags nor the CDN greensheet even LIST these notes as existing let alone a price. RARE RARE RARE.
Ok, now that I am clear on the brother/sister meaning, I have brother/sister pair plus one, from my 2011 Lucky 888's 1,2,5 and five dollar notes. All have the same serial #s. Do collectors like to see these? I thought the serials were handed out at random? ( from the mint that is, in series such as these) This is what I have http://www.moneyfactorystore.gov/luckymoney888set.aspx
It's a cool set, and I actually picked one up with 4 eights while I was at the B.E.P. last summer. The guy at the gift shop did say I would like this particular one. However these are made for collectors, and are not a natural find. I do expect the set to fetch a modest premium, assuming they don't make anymore in say a couple of decades. I've only seen a couple natural bro/sis on eBay. The odds are insane of finding one yourself in a lifetime, and tripple insane if they had matching federal reserve blocks. I actually think it wouldn't be all that crazy putting togather a 5K & 10K notes matching set back in the day, since they made so few. Of course you would need to have some crazy wealth back than! Makes me believe those were probably put togather by a wealthy banker with access to the vault.
Has anyone noticed the $10,000 dollar bill? I looked at one after this show and noticed that the guy on the bill looks just like actor Christopher Lloyd.
Good info thanks goes to show how much rare items are in collectors hand that are not even documented. Overall the show seems little better than Pawn stars which dealt with cars and lot more collectible toys?
The "guy" you refer to, on the $10,000 note, is Salmon P. Chase. Secretary of the Treasury under President Lincoln......and yes, he does look a bit like Christopher Lloyd, I suppose.
