I have 10 sets of the 2005 Bison 2 roll mint sets. Should I open them to look for speared bisons? Since so many people have these sets, my curiosity is killing me.
You might aw well. There deosn't seem to be a premium on Mint rolls compared to bank rolls. Once you search the rolls, just put them in the plastic rolls and your curiousity will be at rest. Until the next coin error.
there is a large diagonal die scratch line that goes across the bison's hump that looks a little like a spear stuck in the beast. They are from the Denver mint and were found exclusively (I believe) in northern Texas, originally.
I have over 20.00 face that I got from a wells fargo in Irving Tx, make me want to go bust them open now, they are all from the denevr Mint! I'll bust open one and let you all know if it makes a difference they are in the clear plastic bank roll....
Good Luck bandit. After thinking about it. I might just sell these on Ebay. They are the "0000" boxes and I think they are selling for a little more then the other released boxes.
I just looked at ebay and there is a guy selling 2 rolls still in the mint box of bison for 9.95 thats a dollar more than what I paid from the mint and he had 100 that you could buy. says buy 5 get 1 free! Now thats a deal!
Well, with those plastic shrinkwrapped rolls you could bust them out and inspect them then easily return them to the roll. I know because my bank uses plastic too and if I have a H/H or T/T roll I reverse one coin from the end to make the roll a H/T roll. Here is what it looks like: good luck! P.S. The die gouge is more impressive than this photo shows, it is visible across the entire buffalo, not just the fields.
not yet I am at work, but that blown up photo sure looks like what I have, at the time I thought it was funny looking but figured they all looked like that, I am stuck here till 6 then it gonna be 45 mins to get home. Its been eating on me all day LONG!!!

Yea I have seen they are deffenitly going for more than a detached leg! so yea looks like the thing to do would be to get it graded!
they are worth $200-$500 ungraded and $350-$1500 if graded by one of the big 4 a MS 63-MS 67. I recommend slabbing if you have one!
gonr through 4 rolls so far guys and nothing! I thought for sure I was gonna find some, still a few more to go
Don't forget to look for the detached leg error also: http://cgi.ebay.com/2005-D-BISON-NI...ryZ41089QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
well after 5 rolls my three year old and I decided to call it a nite! I can't believe it I thought for sure I was going to find a bunch! My intentions was to send 1 to each of you all that have wished me luck in finding them. I still have several rolls left, and I too am thinking of busting open the mint roll sets, but I hate doing that. I wish I had more information on that nickle, I know most of them appeared here in my area (Dallas) but is there any other trick or secret to finding one? anyone know more or less when they hit or has anyone found one in a mint roll? I didn't even so much as find a detached buffalo, I see the guy on ebay selling mint roll sets for 9.95 is there any chance of finding one there? I am still confused on this error, you would think there would be a premium on d rolls.
I read somewhere that the speared bison error was noticed within 60 seconds and that is why they are so uncommon. Literally thousands of rolls have been opened trying to find them and only 1000 have been certified, your odds of finding one even in rolls from the correct batch are pretty small.
