Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

What was the best coin deal you have had?
    As in:
    • best bang for your buck
    • Best seller
    • best buyer
    • greatest score
For me, My best bang for my buck would be a bin of foreign coins I bought for $33 and sold them for a total of $100
The best seller I bought from was Lkeigwin, giving me the coolest christmas gift even though I didn't make a transaction for more than $1.
The best buyer is probably my (newer) best friend who is 53 years old, and we are going to open a shop after I graduate. (at least that's the plan)
I have many great scores, but a few great scores were:
    • I was given a 1960 and 1964 for giving an overview of value for somebody's personal collection
    • I made an $8 transaction for 4 silver dimes and got an XF Barber and an AG seated liberty dime for free
    • I scored 100 wheats in a box of cents, but all 1930s to 1958
    What was yours?

best bang for your buck: I helped out someone who gave me a handful of coins in their bargain bin. it was more than $100 worth of coins. One's a 1909 VDB wheatie that's worth $21! I hope it goes up in value. I'd like to hand that down to my nephew, who's five.

best seller/buyer: I have a few dealers that I really like at the Long Beach and Anaheim shows.

greatest score: a great deal on my Barber collection. There's a certain dealer that I really like. I just recently got a 1913-S dime! ;) One day, I'd like to complete the dimes and quarters. The halves are too pricey!@

best return was 2-20th anniv. ASE sets. $100 ea. at mint, traded about 6 months later at $450 ea. for 1.3oz gold. now the gold is worth about 2k.

Paid face value for about $44.00 in halfs, Franklins, Walking Liberty and a few odd tokens (it was all in a "weird money" Jar at a local Bar n Grill, all the kids put there "weird money" in it for real money) I asked the manager if he needed quarters since I had rolls in the truck that my kids and I had went through. He said bring it, so well, I did. Actually haven't sold any yet but I'm sure I will come out on the deal!

Yes you did. And I'm happy to say I go back every week and the manager and I sit at the bar and go through change he thinks is cool, weird, ugly or anything he says "what is this" to. Lol.

a lot of people can say the 2009 UHR or the 25th anniv. sets. I usually dont sell my coins but I did buy a 20th gold & silver set (both burnished) for $1,400 had it less than a year and sold it for $2,250.

The only reason why I sold the set was to make room for the 25th anniv. stuff that was going to come out. but it just so happened I got $2,250 right before gold dropped big time.

I was hoping there would be a 25th gold reverse coming out.

also paid $300 for the 25th sets and sold 1 for $860.

anyways I'm sure the 2009 UHR was one of the biggest scores per coin. (I missed out) but I'm not a flipper.

The best score I have ever had was a 1950 Franklin that was PCGS Slabbed. It has a DDR doubling on the EPU, on the reverse, and may be one of the only ones in the world. Someone on this site pointed out the DDR. Initially I was thinking that I was dealing with a $300 dollar coin. After sending pictures to various people online I was told to put it in my safety deposit box. Julien Leidman himself is actually going to inspect it in hand within the next week. I had one offer on it via PM (not interested in selling it, but thank you). The great thing about it is that it has some very nice natural tone on the Obverse. The only problem may be with PCGS, they don't have it listed in their registry set. 2 seasoned nuismatic vets already told me to hang on to it. Basically screw whatever PCGS says. I don't know what to think. I dare not release the name of the seller, because I bought it for less than 200. If it does end up being worth some money I am prepared to send the gentleman who spotted the error a free cruise.

My best deal occurred about 7 years ago with one of my "French Connections" for medals. His eBay site had been empty for a couple of months, and when I saw that he had posted about 60 new medals, I sent him an e-mail asking if everything was okay since he had been gone for so long. He explained that he would routinely take off from time-to-time to scour Europe for new material, but he was very appreciative of my concern. To show his appreciation, he asked if there were any of his new auction listings that interested me. I went through them, and told him there were 45 (!) that I liked. We negotiated a deal for $1450, and he pulled all of the auction listings. About half of those medals were 50-60mm struck in silver (argent) and I still have them.

Well, I've had quite a few. I haven't hit the jackpot like a lot of people around here, (haven't made 4 digits on anything yet).

But this one wasn't bad. The seller wanted $140 for it or best offer. I offered $70. He sat on it for 2 days and finally accepted my offer. To top it off, I had made a lot of purchases in the past few months and had a lot of ebay bucks (free money) sitting there. After I deducted ebay bucks, I gave $12 out of pocket for this for my US type album:

I also managed to get 5 25th ASE sets. Sold a couple. I now have a grand total of $200 invested in three 25th anniversary ASE sets.

Another bargain was my 1/10th oz ASE gold ring I bought in 2008. It's a big 14k ring with diamonds in the corners. .28 oz of pure gold. It was $250 shipped back then.

Thought of another one. This set of MS war nickels in this holder I got for $75 at a show. Try doing that on ebay. lol

IDK whihc is best, but have bought $100 face value of silver coins for $280 and found a 32s quarter and a 42/1 verdate dime in them. Bought a group of 50 byzantines that had a $300 ostrogothic coin in there. Maybe its a group of 18 Cleo VII I got for about $15 each that are worth about $80 each.

What do all of these have in common? Group lots. I like buying groups a lot. :)

For a single coin maybe one of the 1858 doubled dies I bought for regular prices.

For me the best find was at a thrift shop. Found a 2filler 1982 Hungary coin for my set. A key date and rare coin for 4 bucks.
And also the store I consistently go to. Though I have never sold anything to him, the fact that always see people selling to him shows me he is honest.

I bought this raw Gold Dollar at a local coin dealer for $395 in May 2011. The dealer simply called it BU and had it along with about 20 other gold dollars in 2x2 cellophane window holders in a small cardboard box. I liked this particular one because of the lack of nicks and marks, the great luster, and the original (undipped) tangerine gold color.

My biggest concern was that it might be counterfeit (I am not so great at detecting those). Also there was a bit a weakness around the date, I thought it was possible that it might only be AU or I thought perhaps it just was a weak strike.

I sent it into PCGS in June using the Secure Plus service and held my breath. Three weeks later, I got the grading results ... it came back MS64 (WOW!). When I looked it up in the PCGS price guide, my eyes bugged out ... it's valued at $1,675.00 !! So I more than quadrupled my original $395 investment in less than a month.

Wow WL, that is definitely a great piece. How blue/dead did you turn while holding your breath for 3 weeks? ;)

A great buy I'm actually proud of came from eBay. Bought a 1865 3 cent nickel I thought was an AU grade for $38. Got it in the mail a few days later and saw it looked better in hand. Decided to send it off to get slabbed and it came back MS64. Needless to say it was my success story for 2011. And from feeBay no doubt ;)

That right there is why I collect. What a gorgeous $1. And what a way to obtain it. It doesnt always work out this way but Ive heard alot of success stories involving nice looking, loose, gold pieces being sent to TPGs.
