Hi there this is my first time collecting, my great uncle gave me some coins he had and these two got my attention. The first is a 1911 one shilling i think and the second is a 1923 one florin.Any info would be great. Also props to green18 for the photo editing & presentation thread defiantly saved me a lot of time. Thank you all.
The 1911 1/- is sterling (92½%) silver, the 1923 2/- is 50% silver. The 1911 shilling weighs 5.7g ... 0.1682oz ASW The 1923 florin weighs 11.3g ... 0.1818oz ASW Total silver ≈ 0.35oz = $10.09 ($28.83/oz as on 1/9 am)
Both are from the UK. Obverse legend of the shilling: George V, DEI GRA: By the Grace of God, BRITT: OMN: REX: King of all Britons Obverse legend of the florin: George V, DEI GRA: By the Grace of God, BRITT: OMN: REX: King of all Britons, F.D.: [Fidei Defensor] Defender of the Faith, IND: IMP: Emperor of India The worn shilling's reverse legend was: FID DEF: IND IMP ... ONE SHILLING (Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India, One Shilling)
