Do you think I would be better off buying a Set of American Eagles 69 grade from 1986 to the present or getting a roll of 20 -2012? Not a real avid collector just love the coins and of course would love own them, but in the long run which might be a better investment? Thanks Jim

  3. Welcome to CT! :welcome: Nobody knows what the best investment is, but IMO I would go with the raw 2012 ASE roll over the MS69s. You may be able to get two rolls for the price of one graded year set. TC

You say investment so it depends on flip time. Selling within a year then roll especially if you time any market upswings right. However if selling more than a year out I would go with the year set. I would personally hate to pay price for a roll and have silver drop it's already dropped from around $33 to $28/29. Sets at least can limit any losses and will hold value better as the 96's will have their premium back and some people do/will pay a bit more for the 86,89,and 92 to help offset the drop in silver prices. Also if it's a set someone collected and include the 06,07,08 W burnished so you have a 29 coin set instead of a 26 coin set. I am not including a 2012 which would push those numbers up one.

As for dealer retail prices for sets are about 1100-1300 in MS69 even ebay and online/national coin dealers are about that. 3K are for MS70 sets because of the prestige and idea of having the perfect coin or are sets with 20th anniversary label coins and burnished series coins both included. Raw's in albums come in around 800-900. OGP's (original gov't. package) are at the low end of the MS69's at 1000-1100. Grey sheet ask (selling price) 1128 and 1357 with 06,07,08,11 (non 25th anniversary) burnished.

I'm a collector and stacker so i would get the set raw and buy extra eagles with the money you didn't spend on the MS69s.
