I recently found a 1983 with a denver mint mark .The penny that seems to be made of the same metal as a nickel? The condition of it is good.It is not plated or coated with any thing. Can anyone tell me about it, and is it worth anything besides a penny?sorry I dont have a picture.
More than likely its plated in such a way that its hard to tell. BUT it could be an error....but not on a nickel....it could be struck on a dime plachet.... If you could post a few photos and the weight....if you don't have a way to weigh it take it to a jewelry store and ask them if they will weigh it. Speedy
It is possible for a coin to be struck on a smaller planchet than intended, but not on a larger... it is possible for a penny to be struck on a dime planchet. It could also be on a planchet that is missing its copper coating (though highly unlikely). Or it could just be altered in some way that is not easily detectable. Picture would help, lol...
