I personally prefer scanning paper money rather than photographing. But since photographing doesn't flatten the bill, so it does point out the flaws better. Nice atheist note btw. I just got my first one the other day. It is in the door of my safe taped up in a binder page cut up and placed inside.
The back and front appear to have different color balance, presuming there hasn't been an issue with the paper. The back is quite blue. This is another problem with doing it via photographer versus a scanner (which provides its own light and therefore doesn't have to guess what color things are). Dave
I can never get the white balance right either. I think I am going to just default to the scanner from now on.
Scanning will take care of most of your problems. Unless your using a copy stand, you'll get some distortion by using a camera. Your pics are heavy on the magenta side (according to my monitor). With a scanner set at high resolution, you can get massive pics to see close-up details on the notes.
I have had good luck with Scanning ... these are all scanned notes (done on an HP Photosmart All-in-one).
I have to agree, scanning paper money is the way to go. its faster with great results. I have an expensive camera and I love taking pictures but it's not needed for paper money shots.
