Hey, I am going to be selling these coins and I was wondering the value of each one. Much better in hand. Thanks in advance! ~Cannyn
Depends if you are selling them on ebay, a coin board, to the dealer, to a collector, etc.? The last one looks from the pics to be in the best grade at AU and maybe Unc with coin in hand to really look it over. The pics make the others look too worn on the breast of the eagle and hair/ear of lady liberty. If that's the case then reallistically you are looking at 90% of the spot silver price (kitco has spot at 29.30 @90% silver or .773 troy=$22.26 per coin) so a dealer would pay about $19-22 depending on dealer mark up(profit margin). If the fourth is Unc you might see about another $10-12. Ebay and direct to another collector who shares you interest/love of toned morgans could pay a bit more to alot more than the $22.26 value especially if they really want the coin or auction fever takes over. This is just a general idea to start with and what to expect of course as always anyone can ask any price they want and see if they get it.
If the coins are Unc....which they may be based on the softness of the New Orleans mint and the scanned images then I would expect a small premium for 3 of the 4 coins...maybe 10 to 15% above sheet but that may simply offset the fact that the coins are raw.
Yes, sadly I had to resort to scans. My grandmother went up to Alaska for the weekend and took the camera. But I will sure post pictures when she gets back.
I cannot tell if they are are uncirculated either. If they are, the first 2 from New Orleans command a decent premium. dannic, not sure why you would think these would be worth melt. Not even close. They would be worth over 5x's melt or more.
I think the info you have above is correct. They all look naturally toned to me, but not enough color to command a big premium.
I am a lover of toned Morgans; however, I wouldn't even think of offering a premium for the tone on these ones.
My camera takes really bad pictures, but do you think a short video may help get an idea of the coins?
That would be worse actually. I'll tell you right now from what I see in those pics, nothing exceptional stands out to me. A couple of them have fingerprints on them, a couple of them are marked to the point they are barely AU, but they are all common. It's hard for me to say which is the nicest looking one because they all have some issues. If you can get $5 over spot for each, more power to you.
Could be the scans but coin one isn't showing enough eagle breast feathers especially in the center. coin two shows some wear in the ear it looks almost flat (kind of like the wear of lincoln's jaw on a wheat cent) and hair above the ear. Three shows wear in the hair above the forehead look under the LIB in the Liberty crown. Unfortunatly if the wear is real and not lighting issues from the scanning then it puts them AU at best and more likely F-XF and with silver what it is that's melt. The fourth coin is the only one that shows no signs of wear in these areas. Hopefully they aren't but based on the scans that's what shows up.
So I used PCGS photograde, and I got MS61 for the fourth, AU53 for the first, XF45 For the second AU53 for the third.
I have access to a great camers, but it is in Alaska right now, my camera I have is a cheap 6 megapixels that costed $150 back in the day where modern technology had all power. I remember my brother bought a first generation 1gb ipod nano that same year for $185
