I am looking for the square hard plastic coin holders for my morgans, peace and halves. My local dealer has them but they don't fit tight and they all rattle. Any suggestions or links for ones that do not rattle without a gasket? Thanks in advance.
How tight is "tight"? There has to be some clearance, even if it's only a few thousandths of an inch. I've never had any coins "rattle" in a Capital holder, but they can be a little pricey.
Well tight like slabbed coins so they don't spin inside the holder. I obviously don't do this with the nicer coins, but if you shook the coin, it rattles back and forth to the point that it rotates in the holder itself. It's not a big deal, just a little annoying when you are handling the coins in the holders and the coin starts rotating.
With a hard plastic holder you only choice is probably going to be the Capital Plastics holder and even with those you are liable to still get rotation eventually. And if you work with early pre-1836 coins you will find there IS no holder that would hold them tight because they all tend to be slightly different sizes.
sadly the marcus 2x2 holders still rattle but i like them since they are pretty good for displaying or putting in 2x2 boxes and what not. as for the capital plastics holders are those the ones with plastic for the outside and cardboard with a hole in it that holds the coin in place? if so then i have something somewhat similar with blue cardboard and the inside and oddly enough the coin has toned blue on the outer surface. but it may just be the particular holder i have which is kinda older. maybe the design for the holders now a days are designed not to tone or tarnish a coin anyways i kinda got off track but i hope this helps.
This is why I like airtite's, the round ones, with the ring that is a cushion if it doesn't fit perfectly or makes it nice and snug. If the coin does spin, well, you can't tell because it's round, there is no top of bottom of the coin holder. Plus it can still give you the sensation that you're holding the coin as it's raw in a way.

I agree the airtites are probably the best way to go if you don't want rattle, but he did specify no gasket around the coin.
