Guys, I know we have been through this, but, do you think that, with the government trying to save money, and with dollar coins not being popular enough to replace the $1 bill that maybe the Treasury would consider my proposal to make smaller halves, yet still easily distinguishible halves, just to cut down on expenses of minting so many quarters, and less metals than they would normally use in minting large halves as well? I really do think that, since most cash registers have a slot for halves, and the vending industry has told me that a smaller half might have a chance, that maybe this could be one of the big money savers the government is looking for. And like I said, many people that deal with large amounts of change may like carrying fewer, lighter coins, with less quarters and smaller halves, like the armored car services that were against the dollar coin because they were worried about more armored car breakdowns due to the weight of the extra coins. Smaller, lighter halves could spell a small releif of this problem, if all vending and other coin-op machines accepted and dispensed them, and consumers got used to the 50 cent denomination again, and they might like it better than two quarters. The only disadvantage to a smaller half would be, it would be easier to lose if you dropped one, as oposed to the current large half. I don't know how heavy paper money can be, but I'm sorry, I can not go without saying they should get $2 bills back out into circulation as well to lighten armored car loads even more, and save the government money on printing less $1 bills as well. And, as I said, let's go the way of our neighbor to the north, and issue polymer banknotes (even if not $1 and $2 coins) I will shut up on this issue for a while now. I may draft a few letters after the Presidential election, on all of my "weird money" issues to encourage their enactment, to save the government money. However, please give me your thoughts on what you think the odds are of these issues getting attention, or passed, after Decission 2012. I'm sorry if my obsessions with these issues make me look weird or crazy. Oh, I will say one thing. I may be getting close to starting my business, and if I hit it big, or even just get $2 bills and halves popular again, and if I have money to hire lobbyists, I might just get somewhere, I would think.
I can't see them considering it unless the cent through dime were discontinued and the quarter became the smallest denomination.
no chance in **** of this working, IMO ! the cent has to vanish the nickel has to change composition. dimes and quarters work. dollar coins instead of bills, no twonies in the USA.
