Hey gang! I am in the process of buying an dealers stock who closed his coin shop in the 1980's. This coin was in the last lot I purchased. It's hard to capture with my camera but this coin does have luster under all the toning. The last picture is the RAW picture from my camera... I'm going to be sending this coin in... anyone want to give a guess what NGC's gonna say about it? Here is the RAW image. Waddaya think?
I think I'm in love. Au 55 is what I will say. It's hard to see under the toning. It may be uncirculated? That ring on the obverse is unique. Was another coin sitting on top of it for many years? Either way, I love the heck out of it.
I haven't a position on the grade, but I will say that's a tremendous half dime - thanks for sharing it!-L
Howdie LD. Don't see you across the street anymore. Nice Half dime. Glad to see your still pluggin away.
WOW! That's a survivor! I love the orginality....you can tell it's MS by the reverse. I'll guess 63*.
I would guess 63. A 64 would not shock me and there is a slim possibility it would get a star, but i doubt it.
Nice looking, and I agree with the grade. I don't like the toning however, it looks like some kind of substance got on the coin and prevented it from toning in spots. I've seen a lot of toned coins, and usually there might be patches of different colors, the "oil slick" splotches on the left coupled with the splotches of none-toning on the right are a turn-off for me. Just my 2 cents.
I am a Half-Dime nut and that is one gorgeous Half-Dime! Your naturally toned coin is most likely in mint state condition as I can't tell whether there is wear on her legs, arms and face or not. If you would post more photographs that would be so way cool! Then I could give you a better opinion of this majestic coin.
Nice looking piece, but it is impossible for me anyway to guess on grade with that image. I saw an 1862 half dime at a dealer's shop recently, graded MS66, he wants $825, but it does have a superb strike and look. Judging from Heritage's auction archives, that was too much for the coin unless it CACs.
OMG what an amazing coin. If you take out the minor dings to the rim I would say the obverse is MS-64. I am kinda shocked that there is no tone to the reverse. I may be going out on a limb and say that this beautiful half dime was stacked on top of other coins, while the obverse was physically exposed to an old canvas bank bag. What an outstanding HD. I want it!!! ~Jason
