I finally gave up and bought one. If you go through lots of coins from relatively unsearched sources, there might be a chance. Wow, just like big game hunting - Good Luck.
That's a whole lot more than I have ever had. I don't collect those, but I know somebody who does, and I sell them directly to her when I pull them out while searching for war nickels. If you love it, continue by all means. It is a relatively cheap investment buying at face, but do go on and have the largest collection of pre-1960 nickels, then sell them when you lose all passion. The person I sell to, pays 9c each, but I've only found approximately 2 rolls and keep hole fillers and have yet to find a 1950-D
I find most of it at the place where my mom works they have this jar and the workers can by snacks there and today i was with my mom and i found 3 nickels and i got really excited so i like to check places where they have a jar to put coins in becuase most people usually use there nickels.
Excuse my lack of knowledge in nickels but what is so special about a 1950D? I looked up the price and it didn't seem to be especially high.
If you enjoy it and it keeps you active in this great hobby that is all that matters Just as I'm having to start over at this time I'm sticking with Washington Quarters Silver, graded , etc, I may change later but right now this interest me Enjoy Sandy
I found around 2 or 3 rolls of pre 56 and 2 rolls of 1956-1960. I've only found 4 wars and 2 buffalo, but I have found a 1939 in MS shape. I enjoy doing the Jefferson nickel collection only ones I'm missing now are 1950 and 1950 D.
to the op, i save any of the pre 60s i find. as for the person wondering why the 50d is hard to find. look at the mintage, it is the lowest mintage of all jeffersons. and thats why its soo difficult to find amongst the billions of the others made.. cody
Be careful, some banks are starting to charge for that many coins if you don't have a commercial account.
