Here is a So-So 1921 Peace Dollar I haven't pulled out in a LONG time. Seems to have toned a little too since I last looked at it. Just wondering what condition would you say it's in. The speck on the neck is a dust speck under the flip.

    Bone, I'd say that is a vf-25.

EF-45, maybe even AU-50, but cleaned.

    I'd say VF.

Premium quality brilliant uncirculated once re-dipped and offered in the full page ads of Coin World, judging by photos of what I've seen those guys sell !

Because it has a HIGH-RELIEF portrait already, I would give it an EF+ rev. but only a VF obv. I would net that to about VF-30. Then cleaning comes into play. Not better than a VF value.
    Still I WOULD TAKE IT.

I'd say a strong VF. 35. I dont see the cleaning. I see spots where the coin has shadows and I see in the fields like it has been wiped off with something (tshirt), but I guess I am missing the cleaning. Unless that is what is being referred to here.

I'm going to say vf-30. If there is an old cleaning it is not detracting from the overall look of the coin though

Hey guys....IMHO you are undergrading this coin.
Remember that in 1921 there was high relief strikes....IMHO this coin grades AU and is uncleaned.
It is hard to find a true uncleaned 1921 Peace Dollar....
I remember about 5 years ago going to a show and looking for a 1921 Peace and found alot but I thought $50-$60 for a VF+ was too much....I got an AU one for this year for over $100.

Can someone please point out the aspects of the "cleaning" of this coin. I'm just not seeing it.

Most 1921 Peace dollars have been cleaned. If you see a coin with a lot of wear and no luster, that is bright white, then it has most likely been cleaned. Since Bone's Peace dollar looks like it has XF detail, and it is bright white, that makes me think it has been cleaned.

Well maybe my eyes aren't what they should....but I see some luster....
Also when thinking about 1921 Peace dollars this isn't alot of wear....now if it was a 1922 I would agree.

It looks like it's been rubbed with something mildly abrasive, like baking soda, from the pics.

Like I posted on the WINS list this was considered a cornerstone coin of folks collections my dad knew and traded with back in the 60s and 70s down in Texas. The 1914-D (I got two), 1909-S VDB (I don't have one), and other's like were considered untouchable and always the last coins shown after an evening of trading or a meeting.

Looks better out of the holder. I'd bet it would be slabbed as AU without a problem, but it really doesn't need a slab. It should be very comparable to what sells as AU-50 by any dealer. It doesn't look so cleaned now.
