Morgan and Liberty Dollar Collection

I have a Morgan and Liberty Dollar Collection my Grandfather collected. 99 Coins plus a bunch of Silver Quarters, Silver Liberty Quarters, Half Dollars, Silver Buffalo Nickels and miscellaneous coins. Right now I'm concentrating on the Morgans and Liberty's. Here is a list of them:

I can post pictures if anyone spots a rare year or one that might be of value. Some are in great condition and some fairly worn. Any information is welcome or if your interested in buying I'm also interested in selling.

1886-S is the only key date I see. Photos will help determine value.

 

Well, buffalo nickels aren't silver, they're the same as today's nickels. War time nickels ('42-'45) have some silver in it. Post anything with the CC mintmark? All of them are worth well over melt. What is the difference between Morgan Dollars and Liberty Dollars? Did you mean Peace Dollars? They weren't minted until 1921 though.

 

Are the Silver Dollars dated 1921 Morgan Dollars or Peace Dollars. (I assume by "Liberty Dollar" you mean "Peace Dollar".) 1921 Peace Dollars are quite valuable.

 

My Bad I didn't know the correct term, the Liberty Dollars listed are in fact Peace Dollars and I have all the years I listed. Some have been kept in a collectors book for 20+ years. I do have some War Time Buffalo Nickels too. When I go back and get the coins to take pictures I will check the Peace Dollars it's interesting you said they were minted 1921 and up, I swore I had some older than that is that possible?

Not sure of your collecting experience...but....DO NOT CLEAN YOUR COINS.

 

You are mixing up your terms. Buffalo Nickels were minted 1913-1938 when they were replaced by the Jefferson Nickel. War Nickels are Jefferson Nickels and were minted 1942-1945 (during World War 2) and are 35% silver.

The first year Peace Dollars were minted was 1921. If you have any Peace Dollars dated prior to 1921 they are not genuine.

 

You mean Jefferson Nickels, right?

No, sorry, but it isn't. A few years before 1921, the designs were drawn up, but no coins were minted with a date before 1921. There is no way that you would have a real Peace Dollar dated 1889 I'd love to see some of the higher grade (or quality) Morgan Dollars though.

And as BadThad said, DO NOT CLEAN YOUR COINS. EVER.

Been a long day so bear with me lol. There is so many different coins in the collection and not knowing the names makes it harder. I will try and post a picture of every different coin so I can get a proper Identification on them tomorrow.

 

Post some good photos of that 1921 Peace Dollar.

 

Actually, the Morgan Dollar is the Liberty Head Dollar. The portrait on the obverse is an allegorical representation of "Liberty". It wasn't until later that it was dubbed the Morgan Dollar after the designer, George T. Morgan. The inspiration for the Peace Dollar was a real person (woman).

Check your 79-S for the "Reverse of 78" (PAF) variety.

Check your 82-O for the 82 "O over S" variety.

Check your 83-O & 84-O for an RPM (Repunched Mintmark).

If your 86-O is in BU condition, it can be worth a nice premium, too!

The 78CC is a key date.

 

The female figure on the obverse of the Peace Dollar is also an allegorical representation of Liberty.

 

Dont forget the 1878 7/8 TF and the 1878 reverse of 1879.

 

The 34S in mint condition (or even almost mint) is also valuable.

Without pictures we really can't tell.
