I posted this a while ago in the "Post a Toned Coin" thread but it's one of my favorites and I like showing it off. -L
This was a raw Peace Dollar I bought on evaluation and I had it a few days this past September. I thought it was really cool looking but was concerned that PCGS would GENUINE it. It was just too expensive to take a gamble so I returned it. However I did like it, it was just overpriced (IMHO) at $225 (which is a pile of $$ for a common date raw Peace Dollar (nice color or not). I thought the obverse was a 10, but didnt like the big spots on the reverse. When I posted it on the PCGS board about 70% of the posters thought it was AT'd. In any case, if I could have gotten it for around $120, I probably would have rolled the dice on it. I think the guide price on this coin is probably around $30 (so even at $120, I would be paying a 4x toning premium.) That being said I still think it's one of better looking toned Peace obverses I've ever seen (AT or no AT).
bahabully that's a beauty, where do I send payment? WingedLiberty, I agree, the toning on the reverse is suspicious. Wise call on returning it.
haha.. it took me forever and more $ than I cared to spend to get that first coin in my future toned peace collection. Your collection above is stunning. Nice peace toners are very hard to come by in tpg plastic.. not to mention the premium they command. I have 3 more toned franky proof halves to aquire, then a couple to upgrade.. then will likely join you in the quest for a nice peace set. The 26 and the green one under it are eye popping. You have a killer $et there Cat !!
