I am friends with the bank teller of a bank next to my parents restaurant, and whenever somthing cool/ silver comes in she pulls it aside and i get it for face value. well she pulled a 2001 north carolina quarter for me and it appears to be silver? it looks cameo even, on the side there is no split colors, just one solid color around it. is it possible that it's part silver? i cant get any photos right now because i dont have my camera with me to do so. Thanks for your help, Tyler
Likely a silver proof quarter from a broken up 2001 proof set. Is it mintmarked with a "S"? My local coin shop has proof quarters in their junk silver bins and I got an IL silver proof quarter from there last time I bought. That's a nice find. Hopefully, it's not impaired (aka ruined as a proof).
The "S" mintmark does not guarantee that it is a silver proof. They also made clad proofs, but to be honest, I've never bothered looking at the edge of any clad proof from the SQ program. My personal opinion is that any proof coin that enters circulation and grades less than PF68 should be considered an impaired proof. Chris
