Thats a cool coin! It says Jesus Christ King of Kings on the back, and yet this is a Greek struck coin?

Greek was the language of the Byzantine Empire from my understanding.

    Hello

It's definetly a byzantine follis (or division, depending on the size)

Brian, you are right.Greek was the official language of the Byzantine Empire, but it retained its very Roman structure, except the Greek Orthodox Church was the official church instead of the Roman one.

The dates for Constantine VIII seem to overlap with this guy.I haven't researched it but maybe they were co-rulers for a couple of years?

Mikjo0,there were some Co-Emperors in the Byzantine Empire. It was derived from the tetrarchic system that was introduced by the Roman Emperor Diocletian.

    Ahh..here is the story:
    Constantine VIII, 10 January 976 - 11 November 1028 A.D.
Joint rule with Basil II (his brother), 10 January 976 - 15 December 1025 A.D.
Constantine only lived three years longer than his brother Basil. During the short duration of his reign, he was happy to leave the business of the empire to others. He arranged the marriage of his daughter Zoe, and upon his death, Zoe's husband took the throne as Romanus III.

The difference in the designs of the Contantine VIII/Basil II coins and those of Romanus III seem to be the cross potent that is worked into the design of the inscription on the reverse.I never noticed it until now.
Incidently DeOrc,yours is worth almost double the value of mine according to Forum Ancient Coins. They must be scarcer.
    NICE!
    P.S...I SWEAR I didn't know I had this..LOL..I'll have to re-label it though To reflect the co-rule.
    P.P.S....done
