I'm with you. PCGS wouldn't downgrade this 65RD. There's a lot to love and I'll keep it. But I don't agree it deserves a 65 with the reverse print. Lance.
That's a nice 99 WAM Badness !! Did you find it in circulation ? I've searched for it for years and never found the 99... finally had to break down and lay out the $$'s to get one.... .. not cheap.
This is the PCGS MS 64 RB "cast off". To me the obverse is wildly attractive and almost un-improvable. The reverse matches perfectly and I like that but the print limits the grade and wouldn't ever make a 65 IMO. So, it really is a case of choosing to look at the positives instead of the negatives or not. My set has a target grade of 65 or higher and this coin could certainly be a highlight for a 63-64 set, but for the price level, I'll probably just keep it. Matt
Yep, I found it in a Brinks box, sent it to NGC and it came back MS-65RD....then I sold it for $550 because I found another in MS-64RD....I kept the 64 for my collection. Believe me, I searched a megaton of boxes to find these. They are TOUGH as **** to find in the wild.
I know the feeling....actually, I had resigned to the fact that I'd never find one. Then I found two within just a couple months. There's MANY other, easier to find, coins I've never found so don't feel bad.
Won This Yesterday! I'm still in shock to not only find this but win it at a very modest premium. I fell head over heals when I spotted it in the Heritage F.U.N. Auction - just incredible toning. Now the seemingly unrealized asset - it is graded MS66*RB. There are no 67's and this is the only 66 Star. It's star designation was not promoted and definately fell through the cracks. It's my first pop. 1 none graded higher Wheatie. I'm left with a real dilemna - it replaces one of my favorite MS65R. I may just keep both.
Another new one from F.U.N. It's only a 64R but I like it and it fills one of the last two holes in my 09 to Present Set.
