Not really a New Years Resolution thread, more of a thread to set thoughts on what one might be wanting to do in 2023 with their Numismatic hobby. Mine: 1) Join the John Reich Collectors Society 2) Get the Overton-Parsley book "Early Half Dollar Die Varieties..." 3) Get the Logan-McCloskey book "Federal Half Dimes..." 4) Learn more about Capped Busts (ok, that's for my new interest) 5) continue doing some CRH 6) go to 3 or more shows and plan on purchasing at least one or two more slabbed coins to gift to my son 7) thinking about setting up at my local coin show to get a seller's perspective from this hobby 8) have another educational program scheduled for me to give, so i have to prep that 9) participate in Secret Santa again 10) get the new Mega Red edition for 2023 What are yours?????
1. Continue to study. 2. Continue to buy more coins. As for your resolutions... 1. I'm already a member. Have been since the late 1980s...Great organization. 2. Already own the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions...Someday I'll run across the the 1st. 3. Already own. It's out of print an tough to come by. 4. See my first resolution. Edit to add: Got to thinking about it and found (and bought) the Overton 1st edition.
Mine is to complete my (circulated) Mercury Dimes set, except the 1916-D. The only two I need are the 1921-P and D. Also I want to get more Walking Liberty halves. I've noticed that it's hard to find the earlier Walkers in decent circulated condition (Fine or better).
I would like to get a coin for each of the British kings that are on my list, Edmund the Magnificent (939 to 946) and Eadwig (955 to 959) and upgrade my Richard III coin. All of those are very hard to do. On the easier side, I'd like to continue with my large cent date set at least from 1840 to 1857. And I'd try to go back into the 1830s.
JRCS member and highly recommend. Also there is the LSCC! Liberty seated collectors club. I'm also a member of the barber coin collectors society. Small, but there is a booklet 4x a year like lscc. JRCS releases a publication 3x a year. All are great organizations.
I was a member of the Barber society for 3 years, and it is great but I found I was not that interested in them per se to really get into them that much, so I stopped. Money was tight for me at the time and I did not re-up the membership. I do have my journals there and they are very professional. If anyone is even half-way interested in Barbers, I think it's worth it to do that.
Continue on with American Gold Eagles. Would like to get the 2021-W Gold $100 and 2017-W Gold $100 at some point as I have the 2015 and 2019. Maybe a $20 Saint if I can find one at a good price. There's just something about Gold!
I’m wide open as far as a new challenge goes. Not worried — it’ll do what it usually does: walk up and slap me in the face.
1 Collect 2 Collect more 3 Continue collecting 4 Collect even more 5 Learn about filing for bankruptcy 6 Tell wife I'm really sorry 7 Pray a lot
Goal: I’m trying to make a grading set of 81S Morgan’s. The MS+ grades are easy, everything else is harder. I did set up at a coin show this year and sold a few things. Harder than I thought it would be. Might try again.
#1 - Continue living so that I can continue collecting (as of Christmas I am now 81). #2 - Get my inventory updated and (as much as possible) fleshed out. Other - Continue collecting
A few more pre-Federation and Colonial coins, a 1797 half dime, one or more Anglo-Saxon silver pennies, a mid-grade 1917-S T-2 SLQ, 1877 IHC, 1839 ND half, Flowing Hair dollar, 1907-08 No Motto Eagle, No Motto Liberty Head Eagle, Libert Head Double Eagle, Fuechtwanger cent, high MS or proof Barber half, and at least ten Capped Bust Half Dime die marriages. More ambitious than attainable but it will keep me occupied looking for the right coins. Oh, one more: Producing a "How to dispose of my coin collection" document for my heirs.
1) is in the works. Sent in the membership form and check today. 2) and 3) will likely wait until Mar thru Jun timeframe, and I expect 2) will be easier to find 4) already learning a lot from what is on the webs so far, but definitely know I will need those books when I can get them. Based on what I have found out so far, I believe my 1831 half dime is a LM-1.2. Die marriages and re-marriages seem very fascinating, just off the top of things right now, and I definitely need to find out more about the early screw-presses and minting. I want to get better close-ups of mine. I have a couple so far but the phone I am using when the coin is super-enhanced is not the sharpest. Should do, though, for the most part. Will try again with varying lighting in the next week or so and would like to annotate the back with the various points I'm seeing to really make sure.
1.) Finish my Lincoln cent series 2.) Add one more classic commemorative 3.) Network within the numismatic hobby-I feel isolated that only I enjoy my collecting tendencies. Yes, cointalk is nice, but sitting with someone and ooogling over each other's collections, talking die varieties and such would be a nice social venue.
My goal is to keep selling my lesser things in order to buy a graded 500.00 bill, i'm not a big paper money collector but have always wanted one of these.
