There are 4 types of 1993 coins and 2 are very expensive and rare. Is this one of them? The types are 1953 No Shoulder Fold, Far 1953 No Shoulder Fold, Near 1953 Shoulder Fold, Near 1953 Shoulder Fold, Far Anyway here is a picture of the observe of the coin: ^First^ ^Second^ Near or Far?
You need pics that will enlarge more and also need pics of the reverse of each. Basically, on the Shoulder Fold, the I's are "straight-sided" and on the No Shoulder Fold, the I's are flared at each end. The Reverse is where you can tell if it's a Near or Far Maple leaf (relative to the dentals and rim).
Also, Try to take a better resolution pic showing the lettering on the obverse (especially showing the word 'dei' and the shoulder detail (at bottom of bust, where the "armhole" is)
I can only take scans but I can make them larger. I have tried with my camera but it is always blurry with close ups.
See if you can change the default resolution to the highest setting. You'll get giant pics and you might have to go through Photobucket or some other site to load it up to here.
Well I just added the front of the coin and it is pretty giant. I found another coin and it is in there. Just tell me if any or near or far.
Unfortunately, it's not big enough (and also crop out the background. That will eliminate problem of making these forum pages so big.) We need pics like the one below to see the lettering detail:
Values (from 2009 Charleton Standard Catalogue) for 1953 NSF Near VF20 - 300, EF40 - 475, AU50 - 775, AU55 - 1150, MS60 - 2000, MS63 - 3500; for 1953 SF Far, VF20 - 300, EF40 - 400, AU50 - 700, AU55 - 1000, MS60 - 1500, MS63 - 5000. For 1954 NSF No values given, noted that there are "Only two known".
When you get the large scan up for the obverse, if the 'D' in Dei has no serif at the top or bottom, and the 'I' is straight sided as well (no serif), then it is a PUP (pick up point) for the Shoulder Fold. If you then look at the shoulder area, you should be able to see two small lines continuing the shoulder outline to the left of center (of the shoulder line). If the D and I have serifes (flared out), then that is a No Shoulder Fold and the only lines you should see coming off the center shoulder line (meeting at the arm area) will be to the right of that center line.
According to this https://www.jandm.com/script/getitem.asp?CID=3&PID=87 one can be worth a lot. What grade is the first one? If anyone could tell by a picture or give me an estimate.
I'm no expert in Canadian Coins, and can only go by what I see and the book I have says. I think maybe you have 1 NSF Near, which should be one of the valuable ones. As far as grading, I have no experience in grading Canadian Coins. You should wait until someone who has experience chimes in on this.
