one of the coins that i got for christmas is a 1864-s seated quarter, my grandfather new little about the coins and i havent done much with them. i was wondering grade and value if anything?
Wow amazing find. I would put at VG-08 with a value of 800! Got a key date there. On another note it looks like there was some cleaning attempted on the obverse. All in all I believe it would go for about 500
Even in low grades, this coin will command relatively high prices: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1864-S-US-S...97?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item45fedfe985 And with a mintage of just 20K, one of the scarcest of the early seated quarters.
well i know for a fact that there was no cleaning at all. it went from my great grandfathers store to my grandfather and he put them in a box and forgot about them, and gave them to me for christmas. i cant wait to go through the rest of the coins.
Nice and RARE coin Kid Collector! even with the damage on the obverse. One that I am still looking for.
okay, so i took the coin into a coin dealers shop, he said to soak in acetone for 2 days, and that would increase value... soak and to dry roll over with q-tip.
A soak in acetone is a good idea but don't use q-tips. Don't rub or wipe the coin in any way. The acetone will dry in a few seconds.
