I was just curious to some people's answers. I used to hoard Wheat Cents and for my dad when I was a kid, and they were quite common, just as 1943 steel wheat cents were quite common when my father was younger, but now I'm wondering, even though they are very common as of yet, should we be hoarding pre-2009 post-1982 lincoln cents with the old memmorial design on the reverse now that there is a new shield design out in circulation? I only as because I never really got into the copper hoarding when copper Memmorial cents were plentiful in circulation, so if there is any reason to hoard zinc Memmorial cents, please give me your opinion, so I can get in ahead of the game. Thanks.
Drago, how many times did you post this on the internet..Here is one for example: http://www.coincollectors.tv/should-we-be-hpareding-even-the-zinc-memmorial-lincoln-cents/ http://www.ecoinsupply.com/collectingnews/?p=2687 http://www.cointalk.tv/tag/hpareding/ I was wondering what you meant by hpareding so I googled it and I now think you meant to say hoarding...
Isn't it obvious? O is right next to P, he then fat fingered the D where the E is right above it for the extra letter. I guess being in the computer business myself, major fat finger jobs don't phase me anymore.
The money you tied up in hoarding the wheat cents would most likely have given you a better return if it had been used or invested than what the wheats are worth today. Same holds true for hoarding the zincs today. The money would probably do better elsewhere.
As for rarity, they will never be worth anything. They were produced in the billions. Unless zinc becomes a precious metal, I'd say you're going to be taking up space unnecessarily.
When thinking of hoarding current coins, the only thing that would ever come close to making sense would be to put away BU rolls. Any circulated coin has such huge mintages that its always like Conder said, the money would make better returns put anywhere else. BU rolls I am not saying will be worth it either, but I think they have the best chance of it. Go back to 1950. Would you have been better off hoarding old worn barbers and WL halves, or BU rolls of Franklins? Go back to 1920, 1890, etc etc. For the same price, (face value), you are almost always, (absent some weird rarity), better off hoarding BU examples over circulated ones. Chris
There's no reason to hoard zinc cents today. Nothing could possibly happen in the next few years that would make them hard to come by at face value.
