I saw this thread in another forum and wanted to borrow it for the sake of good conversation. If I had to pinpoint my goals, it would be:

    1) Focus less on filling holes in my type set with just anything, and work on quality acquisitions.
    2) Attend more shows!
    3) Start on my Early US Commemorative type set by this summer.
    4) Keep off eBay a lot more than usual.
    5) Have lunch more often with a numismatic buddy.
    6) Invest more time helping my daughter with her ATB set.
    7) And finally, get to know you guys just a little bit better this coming year!!

Have a great New Years everyone!

I never even thought about setting goals for 2012... Thanks to your perfectly-timed post, and the great goals you have, it is time to set my own goals and focus for 2012. Thank you and Happy New Year too! -L

Your welcome Lionel, I've personally never thought about it too. But it's a good time to take a look at what you're doing in the hobby and how you would like to enhance it for the future to come.

Well after 8 months of not collecting and not having the internal desire to even do so, I can say that with all honesty that I hope to re-kindle the currency flame that once burned from within me.... I do not think I can ever replace the Large Size Collection I had going, however, the Small Size Collection is still in tact and I hope to add to it with high grade notes.
Most of all, I can only wish to feel the desire that once filled me.

New Years resolutions or goals are just silly, no one really sticks to them, at least from who I've met. Although about 13 years ago, I did bet a guy I could go a whole year without drinking nothing but water as my goal, yeah I won that bet. The next year I bet the same guy I'd go without any red meat or pork, he was silly to take that bet, I've surpassed it and haven't eaten red meat or pork for 12 years now, don't even miss it either. ;)

You are absolutely right rodeo. I'm pretty sure I'm still going to gain weight, silver weight that is. And I'm still going to make some spontaneous purchases, that's what having fun in the hobby is all about. But as far as goals for the hobby is concerned, I think I was aiming for something more generalized. A "in the perfect world" scenario so to speak. It's just a fun topic, let's see how much I plan to accomplish. You're a tough dude to push away red meat and pork all these years. I guess cold turkey is a good alternative.

Pick up at least two of the following half cents (all grades using EAC grading standards):
    1795 C-1 in F-15 or 1795 C-2a in VF-20
    1803 C-2 in F-15
    1811 C-1 with 4-star break in VF-20
    1804 C-2 in VF-35
    1805 C-3 in EF-40
    1809 C-4 in EF-40
I'm trying to fill up the Dansco half cent book using Rarity 3 (~400 known) or Rarity 4 (~160 known) varieties.

The primary goal of collecting for the year 2012 is to complete all the silver and clad modern commemorative issues. Most of the coins I wish to purchase are the uncirculated silver dollars, the 1995-1996 Olympic issues being the toughest and most expensive.

My primary goals:1) fill in my dansco albums 2) not spend all my time on eBay 3) increase quality of my collection. 4) hoard star notes and silver certificates.

When I first started collecting via a jump start from my dad giving me his collection...I actually thought I would fill every hole in the 30 danscos I quickly bought. I went into this frantic "must buy every coin ever!" mode. I thought quantity would be awesome.

That all changed when I bought the Dansco 7070 Type Set album. I completely changed gears and focused on quality, not quantity. Stopped most of my impulse buys and switched into low gear. I educate myself as much as possible before I buy any coin for the type set.
So, on that note, my goal for 2012 is to fill at least 3 of the 8 or so empty holes in my type set with the best possible examples I can afford. I won't pretend I can fill them all (with decent grades). I saved the most expensive ones for last of course. I will be trying to liquidate most of the other danscos (1000's of coins) to afford these . I'm in no rush. Now. :thumb:
So yeah, that and German Empire coin year type set.

    Woohoo!

Nice kookoox! The first four are my thoughts as well. Except it took me many more words to say it.

I want a Bahrain PS1 Proof set, not really sure if it exist, I have not heard about the set any where other than Kraus catalog.
