My most exciting find ever after 3 years of collecting. You can only imagine that I lit up like a Christmas tree when I went to my local Chase bank today to pick up a $20. I had an extra $20 after the holidays and I had my eyes set on this 1981 $20 LA that I knew my teller was holding for me... But I must say that this tops that by a long shot.

    I give you...

    1950B $20 FSTAR_Front_12_27_11_Currency.jpg 1950B $20 FSTAR_Back_12_27_11_Currency.jpg

It's from a 320k run, which is actually high for back then. I'm sure happy with it though. :D My teller said an older woman told her that she was saving it but she wanted to cash it in to buy her grandaughter something for Christmas... And who would have thought!

Merry Christmas to all and a happy New Years!

Heck yea a '50 star tops an '81. Looks like a VF or so... However that little nick might put it in the Fine category? Still a good find for face! I never get that lucky? N-E-V-E-R!

Good deal, hey Merry Christmas and Happy New Years you guys! cough cough I should mention I'm a new years baby, so if you guys want to mail your '28 Gold Certs to me, hey I'm good with that :) I'll even post your name under my sig if it's VF-MS70 (CEC doesn't count!)

    Great find, Travis!

A belated Merry Christmas to you as well, and all the best in the new year. May you have many, many more finds like this in 2012!

    :)

Nice find! As a bonus, notice that your serial number is above the high observed serial in the latest edition of Schwartz & Lindquist. That's not quite as exciting as it would be in some other series (since we already know the high for this printing was F03960000*--your note is just closer to that cutoff than any reported previously) but it's still pretty neat. You might want to email this scan to Lindquist to get this number included in the next edition.

    Hey Numbers,

Thanks for the input. It is as always great to 'hear' what you have to say. You always have something interesting and unique to put in on a thread. I appreciate that. I'm not a book worm, so I wouldn't know how to go about contacting them but I would be more than happy to do so to contribute! How would I send them the scans?

Nice pick up Travis! Definitely jealous for that one! Every note I get older than 1977 is never a star, so it's amazing that you were so lucky. Merry Christmas indeed!

It's funny this would come up....

I actually just got the 10th edition of the Schwartz & Lindquist guide, for Christmas, and was wondering if the scans of the notes in the book are from the authors personal collections, or if they were submitted by fellow collectors.

    Now I know. :)

As ameture as this sounds, and while I usually wouldn't bother asking because I'm not looking to sell it, are there any ideas on it's value? My first hand guestemation (I'm no pro at determining the value for notes like these) is $25-$30?

I figure it can't bring too high premiums after seeing the condition it's in, yet I could totally be off by a long shot.

    Thanks in advanced!

Well, judging by the signatures, your note is a series 1950B, correct? I can't make out the series year in the photo.

Assuming that that's correct, an Atlanta star of this series books for $100 in VF and $350 in Chcu. Obviously, your note is not Chcu, but I figured I'd include both values just so you have some figures in mind, and you can take the condition of your note into consideration, and try and determine a value from there.

Also, as Clay mentioned earlier, your note is out of the reported range, which is pretty cool. I have no idea if, and how that would affect value, but it's still something else that your note has going for it.

I'll say it again, Travis. Fantastic find, and congrats on getting it. :)

They're actually scans but none the less they didn't come out clear at all. It is in fact Series 1950B. I had no idea it was worth so much like that. I'm not sure what I'd grade a note like this..... I'll have to do some research because I'm usually used to grading higher graded notes but when they're low like this I'm not entirely sure.

    Thanks for the input, jlg!

It was Numbers who mentioned that.

Clay... Numbers... You guys both always have exceptional information and IMO you are both paper money experts. I actually always get you guys mixed up but I always edit the post usually before anyone can see it. So it's easy to understand why jlg got you guys mixed.
