Looks like someone attempted to create a false brockage error... Though, their attempt wasn't exactly what I'd call successful. ;)

Safe to say this is post-mint damage.

Looks like Glue to me as well. For some reason I have been seeing more than my share of them recently.

I'm not so sure that it is a hammer job. For one thing, there is no rim damage at 12 o'clock or where the secondary rim crosses Lincoln's shoulder, and you would also expect to see Lincoln facing left but it looks like the secondary image is facing right. I sure wish we could see an overlay rotated to that position using a normal coin.

I was a bit surprised that no one weighed in and said it wasn;t a "penny", but a "cent". LOL

I believe the coin is PMD (Post Mint Damage) something which happened after the minting process. Coins are handled by machines and sometimes they get caught in places they weren't supposed to and get banged up, pinched, cut, etc. And sometimes, people play with them or use them for things other than currency. Cents especially seem to be handy for wherever a small round piece of a good electrical conducting metal is needed. I cannot count the number I have found that were partially melted as if they were used in place of a fuse.

But there are a lot of real "errors" and "varieties" out there. Keep looking
