First of all Merry Christmas 2011 to all of you. Dear members i have got this medal or coin or whatever it is i m not sure about it.Its of United States of America 1775.Could you honorables shed some light over what it is.I have never seen it before, seems rare to me. If you zoom it, its written in the middle, above the hat that This We'll Defend.
I believe it is an Army Commemorative coin. Here I found this website. http://www2.insidenova.com/news/2011/jan/08/designs-army-commemorative-coins-reveiled-ar-759934/
Welcome to Coin Talk! Can't "zoom in" on your pic. I posted the same time as JCB above. I googled it and here's what came up. A site from China: http://www.wellpromo.com/wholesale-Logo-imprinted/Coins_3.htm
It is probably a medal. Is there anything on the other side? The US Mint produced an 11-medal set called "America's First Medals", but this design isn't one of them. It's possible that this was produced by one of the private mints like Franklin or Danbury probably around the time of the Bicentennial in 1975. Look on the edge to see if there is a hallmark. Chris
Wow! It's pretty beaten up (or is that damage part of the design?) Whatever value it had is gone now. Was this a metal detecting find?
Value (unless it's silver but it doesn't look like it) might be about $1 or so. It's got a lot of damage so it would just be a filler for a collector.
This is one of Dondero's older bronze medallions. In that condition there is no real value, but it's nice have anyway.
$200 is an expensive lesson. Rules of coin collecting: 1-Buy the book before the coin. 2-Never clean your coins.
Could You suggest me some books please! I m new to this vast field and there are tones of fake coins available in the market especially the baktrian greek ones!
