I'm thinking it will grade at least 64, but are you sure it's a 7/8? It looks like a 7/4 with the Long Nock to me, but it could just be my eyesight.

:kewl:Here were I see the extra Boldness or Doubled rev it just half the top of breast feather.under the neck and about half way down the Eagles breast.:eek:not easy to photo while still in PCI slab.but when you look[IMG] it looks like high relief area.PCI has it grade a Vam#33[IMG]
:thumb:Chris [IMG] right on the money as it being 7/4TF too as that list as on detail of a Vam#33:thumb:

    It's not a 7/8.

Look inside the loops of the 8, there is no leg from a 7, which would be present if it were a 7/8.

Most of the 7/8 strikes I've seen in hand, you can make out some of a 7 being there and an 8 being struck over it.

I agree this could hit a 64 grade.

I've yet to find a '78 without doubling somewhere on the coin. Not sure what those guys were smokin' (or drinking) but I'm thinking a perfectly minted '78 free of any doubling would be a very special coin!

I'm saying AU58 on this one, guys... I definitely see some rubbing evidence on the bust's cheek and eagle's breast.
Nice coin, but doesn't look like a mint-state piece to me... But certainly close. :thumb:

EDIT: Maybe ANACS'd give it an MS-grade... But they do so for former PCGS AU55's. :too-funny:

Naw, it's an unc, not just an ANACS's unc but even a PCGS unc.

We're talking about the tailfeathers, not the date. It's a 7/4TF. If it were a "7 over 8" date it would be worth a fortune! LOL!

thank you!!! All & Merry Christmas to all!!!

1878 7o8 PCI Vam 33 Holder.jpg I am 100% sure this will grade MS-62 7/8 weak Vam#33 or better but Details my change.
After Collecting Morgan Dollars for almost 50-52yr & 25 year having them graded you do learn a few thing's, even my 61year old eyes are not that bad.

When you consider that ALL of the 7/8's are technically doubled dies because they have been hubbed with two different hubs each with a different design it wouldn't be surprising you see doubling.

Isn't the VAM 33 the double leg? That kind of answers your question about doubling.
