Call it whatever you want.... I think it is a combination of an improper planchet mix, followed by and corrosion which brought it out, followed by a cleaning which lightened the surfaces.
Thanks for the comments everyone and a thanks to Marshall for asking some advice from the woody experts. I am still learning early coppers but liked the look of this one and while the woody aspect wasn't the look I was seeking it sure had the possibilities of a woody. I'm not sure if there was/is corrosion present but I can't say I see any from the photos myself.
