I Came across these today while shopping for Jewelry for my wife. The 1881-O is part of a roll of Uncirculated coins that I went ahead and got and the other was a single. I paid Silver spot price. What are you thoughts on value?
The '81-O looks like an MS63/64, worth around $50-$55 raw. The '99-O's worth its weight in Silver. ...Both dates relatively easy to obtain. You may want to check both coins for die varieties... Google search "VAMWorld". -Brian
Die cracks - at least in the 2nd and 3rd photos. Die cracks are normal for Morgan Dollars. You could use those die cracks to find out which VAM it is.
You may be right... I didn't enlarge the photos and now I see traces of wear on the bust's cheek. Though, the photos are rather poor, not sure why I'd even say it's a mint-state coin. -Brian
Hey guys sorry I have been away today. I am going to photograph all the coins in the roll. The were in a tube dont know how long. From the looks of it there may have been alot of handling of the coins over the years by family members etc.. What is the best way to upload pics on here and I will work on it. I am new to all this so any input is awesome. Thanks
Before you upload the photos, you should crop each photo to eliminate most of the unnecessary background and then resize them to about the size of the first 81-O reverse you posted. I noticed when I enlarged some of your photos that they were a little blurry. If you have a copy stand or a tripod, you should use it. Unless you're posting the obverse and reverse of each coin as a single image, you might want to show each obverse and reverse pair as a single post and number them to avoid mix-up or confusion. Chris
Morgan #4 Ok guys I am listening to everything and being Santa's helper. By the way when I was a kid all these toys came already together, what happened to that? Ok the photos from yesterday was taken from my phone. I do have a tripod and stand I am using today. I am also starting a chronilogical order to all coins so bare with me. I have got several done but this was interesting so I put it first. There approx. 15-20 pics of each coin if you want to see a certain area let me know. Question is this a double ear? Is the date in the correct place? All these coins are for sale, when I find a good deal I like to pass it on. I have 4 kids thats all I need from the roll (Unless of course its a million dollar coin, LOL). I also will take any trades to add to my kids collections.
There are a few of the 81-O with a doubled ear, and you should go to the VAMWorld site to check them against the various markers to see which is which. Simply showing a photo of the area of the doubling is not enough. You should compare the entire coin, both obverse and reverse, to see if the description and/or photos match. Dates were punched into the dies by hand using either a 2-digit, 3-digit or 4-digit logotype. The positioning of the date can vary, and is determined by counting the denticles to the right of the neck "vee". A normal date placement is usually 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 denticles to the right, but there can also be "very near", "near", "far" & "very far" placements. Again, you would have to check your coins against the VAMWorld listings for comparison. Chris
Thanks Chris like I said I am new to all this and seeing how I dont have anything to do until March when I can hay again I am looking to fill my time.
