    I'm quite skeptical for some reason. What's the weight of the coin? In that condition, it's easily a 2000 dollar coin.

    An extremely important question! If genuine, it should be 27.22g, a tad heavier than a contemporary silver yen.

    Diameter should be 38.58mm, a teensy bit smaller than the contemporary yen, which was 38.6mm. The Japan Mint's quality control was excellent, and in the condition shown the coin should be spot on as to both weight and diameter.

    I completely agree.

    Nothing in the calligraphy or design elements that I can see in your pictures jumps out at me as wrong, but I wouldn't be comfortable giving an opinion based solely on those photos.

    If this is the same TD shown in that thread, it's just as genuine as the three dollar bill I keep handy for skeptics to mull over.
