I heard that the US Mint was discontinuing a type of one dollar coin. Is that the presidential or the sacagwewa? Any clarifacation?
neither, just the minting of Presidential $1 Coins for circulation will be suspended. they will still make collector sets
dsmith is correct. You will no longer be able to obtain the new Prez Dollars at your bank because the coins will not be struck for circulation. The Prez Dollars will continue to be struck but only for collectors so you will have to order them from the Mint (which means you will have to pay a premium and shipping to obtain them).
I just hope they stay included in the uncirculated mint sets and not separate. I'll be ordering at least two sets if that's the case in order to complete my Presidential uncirculated collection.
The mint is essentially taking a page out of an older book. They did the same thing to the Kennedy halves back in 2002 as a result of dwindling demand. I think it starts with the first official release of 2012.

Of course this will greatly reduce the mintages of the President dollars and that will in turn cause a great decrease in the mintage of the Native American dollars as well.
That would be the Presidental dollars. They stopped making the one below a long time ago. That's right, I took the opportunity to show mine off.
I suspect that mintage figures for future presdiential dollars will vary greatly, based on "popularity", more for Theodore Roosevelt than for William Taft.
That may also make the second Grover Cleveland a very low mintage. Not the most popular president, and the collectors have already bought one batch.
True, but the second Grover Cleveland Dollar will be a new issue with a completely different obverse design, right?
Yes, (well it will be a different image but how much different will another bust of the same person be?) but how many will realize or care?

Hopefully you could see the sarcasm in my "amazing". I forget sometimes sarcasm doesn't show very well online. I think it's amazing that they would come out with two coins for the same guy, I don't think anyone would have been upset if it had his two terms 22nd & 24th on one coin, although I guess the years wouldn't have really fit. Oh well.
