I'm looking to piggyback a few coins to PCGS. How much in fees are we talking about? I want to send in my 3 dollar gold piece, merc 2/1, a couple bust quarters, and draped bust half.

Why don't the coin guys ever pay attention to the category things are posted in? This is a discussion about PCGS Currency in the Paper Money Discussion Board. PCGS Currency has nothing to do with PCGS coins anymore. They are no longer owned by the same people and are two separate companies. The only connection they have is a name.

Either way, the best option for the notes (or in this response coins...) is to piggyback on a dealer's submission. That way you only pay for the grading of the notes and not the outrageous membership charge for the "privilege" of submitting.

I agree with lettow that it isn't fair to tinman to hijack his thread by changing the subject, but since the question has already been asked, I have to ask if JCB is contemplating piggybacking through a dealer or a friend. If it is through a dealer, you should find out from the dealer what he/she will charge. Their time isn't free, you know! If it's through a friend, you might want to ask that person since there may be different levels of service involved and I'd guess you would share the shipping & insurance expenses.

DUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRR. Sorry I don't know how I stumpled onto this path. Let me turn around and join the heard before I get eating for breakfast. Didn't mean to hijack thread.

  12. I think it was just a mistake by looking at the recent threads to right of the page and replying hastily. So on behalf of the "coin guys" we are sorry. I'm sure it didn't ruin your day, and if it did, we are sorry about that too.;)

It did not ruin my day. I know this is not that big of a deal. Sometimes, however, the comments that come from those outside the paper money arena either deflect the discussion (as it has in this case) or they contain information that is irrelevant or wrong or salient for coins but not paper money.

to me it did not matter if it is about a coin or paper its more about the greading that PCGS dose as i found out you can pay for a lable ect. hole in the wall hoard
now this is not bad as it lets you know the history of the note but if you can pay and have anything put on it can you trust what is on the lable and i am not sure on this one but i was told that you can also pay for a grade or the high number in that grade they give so can you trust them and what they say about something for the grade of a coin or paper? and it was said that they are not the same the paper and the coin side but then why do they have the same logo that is copy right?.
i hope that if i am wrong in any of this that some one can show me that i am wrong as this does not look good for the hobby am i right? i did go to their face book site and seen there they have alot of things i did not know was out there like a full sheet of uncut 100,000 dollar gold notes now they are marked as speime notes i have set an e-mail to the bep asking them have they ever sold these and at the last fun show they had a new clor 100 bill and it was not marked copy they showed it as a real note.
i hope to hear from some one that is a member and show me i am wrong in what i have found out and hope others will at best think about this and look into it for themself

    An Interesting Enlightenment!!

Wow!! Thanks for the enlightenment of various factors which were unknown to me. I'm glad I stumbled while trying to position myself at the keyboard, and JCB1983 injected a post prior to mine.

I feel like the dolt who missing from a village, because I visited this site called COINTALK, and assumed that questions/discussion about coins were allowed without verbal chas
    tising.

I also naively arrived at this thread when selecting from a column of subjects having some without proper subject matter clarification in the "lead-in".

I suggest that threads other than COINTALK be so signified for the uninformed that haven't yet fully developed their ESP capabilities to recognize that the subject matter isn't intended for coin talk.

Sorry, I'll just stumble down the subject list, and hope there's little offense taken.

    What A Relief!

Oh Chris, I'm glad you noticed, and understand my misdirection. When I stumbled in I thought I heard someone relieving themselves, and being full of something, I felt compelled to join in the expulsion. I'm so glad that others weren't peed off as I now feel fulfilled, but yet relieved.

Thanks for the understanding and redirection of a misguided ..... :thumb:

There's a person on CoinTalk called PCGS, or was there a post that said the word PCGS. Or is it a grading company?

One things for sure, slabs always bring more than raw! Almost a hole freaking grades more!
With large notes, it's a drop in the bucket vs the returns for sure!
Say I grade my Educational note I bought raw for 275, and get it slabbed in a VF? I just made two bills easy! (Might cost -what $35 bucks to get it graded through a dealer)
If it drops into a VG+, I might cut even though it will be a lot easier to sale in the near future.
I have a short list of dealers I can trust, that won't pass on cleaned notes in raw! I pay a little more for that peace of mind, but it's still at least a bill cheaper than slabs notes. You've got to be careful in the wild west of raw large notes!
