another cent die clash

Rascal does have a genuine die clash. The reason the bays of the Memorial cross Lincoln's head is because the relief is so very low. I've seen quite a few Lincoln cents from 2000 and 2001 with the same effect. You can also see clash marks from the interior of Lincoln's head below the steps of the Memorial because of the slight die convexity built into the die.

The relief was considerably higher in 1988. For this reason, a similar clash would not be found in this year. In fact, I've only seen these types of clashes beginning in the year 2000.

Mike I know we keep bumping heads and hopefully one of these days we can agree to let bygones be bygones. if you are right about my 88 cent and the rest of us that has examined it in hand are wrong then I would be one happy camper. because that would leave it to be one thing and one thing only that I can come up with. That would be my first opinion of this coin when I first saw it in hand which is a dropped die filling and mostlikely it was the left over remains of a copper die cap. I would love to send this coin to you if you would agree to send it to Potter and let him look at it also. Potter is very good at identifying dropped letters which is also called dropped die fillings. He has identified them for me before. I'm hoping it may possibly be what I first thought. I have seen authenticated ones with much more dropped detail than this coin has if that is what it is. Troy W

Well who in their right mind could blame me for that when you have already declared the coin as PMD from just looking at a photo of it on this forum ? I may be stupid but not that stupid .... If you could have a open mind on that slabbed coin and stop being so bull headed about it being PMD then I may consider it . Potter is always sending you some of his coins for your opinion so why can't you send one his way . you know two heads is better than one. I'm sure that you already know from the information I gave you in my email that whatever this is definately happened at the mint.

 

Potter sends all error-related inquiries to me, so I don't know why you'd prefer his opinion.

According to your own posts where you said the coin had to be looked at "in hand" and not judged from a photograph, you're either being elusive or ignorant.

Your credibility has quickly fallen into the toilet since the only thing you appear to be REALLY GOOD AT, is making excuses.

Either send the coin to Mr. Diamond, as you already publically agreed to do, or stop posting about it.

Why don't you post some of your own coins then you can have your own posts,this way you could leave other folks alone.

 

You are a long way from ever being a Mike Diamond and I will be more than happy to ignore all your posts since as far as I'm concerned, your credibility is toast.

Not with intent to correct you, but Rascal's credibility is more like BURNED toast.

I really don't think that anyone with even the smallest amount of common sense would argue with a Mike Diamond opinion!

 

I'm never close-minded when it comes to coins. I've had coins sent to me that I was pretty sure were bogus but then changed my mind after seeing them up close. In the case of Rascal's coin, all of the evidence available in his photos points to a squeeze job. But if a personal examination indicates otherwise, I would certainly reverse myself and issue the appropriate mea culpa.
