Mintmark above the Monticello building on the reverse on the coin. The 1942 nickel is only P and S without D, 43-45 are all P D and S
1942-1945 are the only years that silver nickels were produced, and they were called war nickels, due to the war.The silver nickels were made differently, in that they all have a large letter (P, D, or S) above the dome of the building on the reverse. If your 1942 does not have this large letter, then it is the earlier, non-silver type.
paid 5 for 3 of them on ebay, just emailed the guy and he said it was a mistake and he is gonna send me 3 silver nickels so thanks again guys
I agree with hobo 100%... but in this case I think he/she got a better deal.. three for the price of one
Also, unless they are AU or higher, they are definitely not worth $5 But you did get lucky. And :welcome:
