i was just wondering what peoples first coin was. mine was a 1964 ms-70 dime that is a dark blue almost purple natural toning. you can even post pictures of your coin if you would like. thanks for sharing.
Hard to say, my parents gave me their collection. But the first one I purchased is a 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS64.
Showing my age here......first coins I bought were a group of three Peace Dollars graded BU (1923, 1924, 1925) from J. J. Teaparty back in the early sixties.
Ah, the journey of a thousand miles (or coins, in this case) begins with a single step... Mine was probably a 1935 wheat. When I first saw it when I was five years old (I was used to Memorial cents at the time), I thought it was the coolest ever. I since lost it or spent it, though. The coin I kept for the longest time is a 2000-P Sacagawea dollar that my aunt gave me for Christmas in 2000 (It's in a special Hallmark packaging, untouched for over a decade now).
My first coin? Probably from 25c my allowance in the late 50's. Could have been anything but I'll bet it was 90% silver. Lance.
First coin I bought I think was a low grade shield nickel. The coin that got me into coin collecting was a WL half. I used to see it in the little safe of my mother's. This was way before ASE, and the absolute beauty made me come back over and over to look at it. Its weird, I have thousands of them today and never pull one out, but that common, xf WL half got me started in coins. Its weird to think about this, since my sister is bringing up that little bank this weekend at Christmas. It was the only thing I told her I wanted from my mother's estate. Chris
The coin that started it for me was a 1903 Indian head penny that I found in my school yard in the first grade (1999?). I thought it looked so cool and I called it my lucky penny. Unfortunatly I lost it somewhere over the years.
My first coins were the wheaties, mercury dimesand the Indian nickle, In my youth those coins were in every day change. Now that make me feel old Enjoy the Hobbie, RB
Welcome to cointalk cashncarry!. I wish I could find that in everyday change. I get lucky somtimes and find a mercury dime or wheat cent, other than that and a ihc that's pretty much in change for me.
My mom gave me a bunch of foreign coins when I was about 9...those got me started. I liked how they were all different. The US coin I remember the most fondly was given to me by a friend shortly thereafter...a 1946S walker. Its no better than a junk silver coin as far as grade, but it definately is a coin I will not part with, and it holds a special place right up there for me
The first coin that I "bought" was an 1893-CC Morgan silver dollar, the year my maternal grandmother was born. It "cost" me $1 from my bank in 1957. Chris
I don't remember the first coin I ever got, but the first one I can remember getting was a Morgan. I got it as a birthday present from my parents when I was about 11 or 12 years old.
my first purchased coin was an 1834 bust half i bought at knotts berry farm(1960), the bank use to be a coin shop back then. its stilll one of my favorite coins, not in the best of condition or the worst. paid 4.00 for it!!!!
