Just found this in a roll of Pennies. I have no idea the date cuz you can't see it. What is this worth?

1c! It looks like PMD to me. Note that there is no central area for the seated Lincoln between the columns. The spacing should be wider in the center.

That is a late state Brokage/capped die strike. Nice error!

Yeah, Doesn't even resemble the actual memorial, looks more like something that rolled over it from side to side. Smash job I say, not even with another penny but something to resemble it, perhaps some type of gear. PMD, worth 1 cent I say as well.

Definitely think you should keep this for now. I tend to agree it may be the late stage die cap problem, based on how the upper part of lincoln with the words are. I'm only a beginner on this type of issue, but I could see it possibly as a desired error instead of some smash job.

Added: Looking at it closer, I don't know what the spaced bars are or if those could have been somehow done to the coin at the mint. So I guess it could be some kind of PMD on the coin, with the coin being acid deteriorated before. I just don't know on this one.

So, where is Lincoln seated in the center of the Memorial? It looks like railroad ties to me.

    Hammer job/vice job.

    PMD.

Why is the rim not damaged then?

Always post a picture of BOTH sides. It helps in the evaluation.

This coin is definately as I stated before. For those of you that haven't noticed error's are one of my main fields of collecting and I have been studying them for years. The image of the memorial on a Brokage is not only upside down on the obverse but it also is a negative image. What you are seeing as "railroad ties" are actually the bays between the columns. The image of the Memorial is also larger on this coin than on the reverse of a regular cent. Had this been a hammer job the image of the memorial would have been the same size as a normal coin. The reason it is larger here is that each time the brokage occurs the coin that is covering the obverse die stretches.

A hammer job does not distort the obverse image of the coin, it only presses an image of the reverse over the obverse image.

Okay! I follow what you're saying. I take back what I said.

    Thanks, Ziggy!

Thanks for your evaluation. I'm glad we have some experts on here. What do you think the value would be? Here is a pic of the reverse for those who asked for it. Thanks again!

Very cool....it's a MAD reverse! Very interesting coin!

These are pretty scarce, I'd guess between $50-$100 or so.
